Looks good man. Bang for buck wise it's the best dash repair I've seen.

Beats the heck out of a $300+ dash pad! Mine had one of those cheesy, glue-on plastic covers, and the pad was cracked like crazy from some PO who had cut two square holes for speakers on the front edges of the corners, so it was beyond repair.

I'd get a sunshade to keep that new cover looking good: https://www.autoanything.com/shop/sunshade

And a decent quality window tint film stops around 90% of UV light, which is responsible for discoloration and deterioration of cloth, vinyl, etc.

What?! Her on the seat, her pants on the dash, I think they would look great like that...
Yes, totally agree! For some reason I was thinking ...never mind, lol, I dropped the ball!

Thanks! So my neighbor stopped by when I was putting spark plugs in it and said he had a 1988 that had the same steering wheel, so I am thinking it isn’t stock to my 1979. I didn’t put it in though so I can’t confirm.
That's the steering wheel off an 88 generation pickup. My s15 Jimmy had the same one and it was an 86.

Thanks guys. Lots of good tips! Might do a dash screen, I am thinking about doing a saddle brown-ish seat cover. That would definitely protect the interior some.

Thanks for the compliments. Figured it was worth sharing if someone was in a similar boat.

good to know on the steering wheel, I had no idea that it wasn’t original until my neighbor pointed it out.

Does anyone sell a vinyl sewn slip on dash cover? It's seems like that would be a very desirable (and affordable) way to fix a bad dash. I've seen several when searching online but never a source for them. Maybe they are all custom

I’ve never seen that before? That’s quite interesting.

Since this thread appears to have resurfaced, I might as well give you an update. The concerns about fading as well as the gorilla glue potentially not holding up are negligible in my case… I have no complaints 20 months later. The only problem that I have had was one of the lower corners of the Suede got thin because I laid it down on rough concrete and I must have scooted it in the ground because that corner barley wore through. Not noticeable when it’s installed, but this set up has held up great for anyone interested in trying it.

I had the original dash covered or ours. PG Auto Upholstery in Ft. Worth did it and it turned out amazing! The cost was $350 (less than a replacement) and I got to choose the color of the cover and if I wanted the stitching. I would never buy a replacement with this as an option since I know it fits without trimming.
