I have attached a couple of pictures of one of the main caps and rod cap bearings form a 160k mile 1993 454 I’m working on. Does this wear seem excessive. The crank appears to smooth without any grooves or distortion. These are the only 2 I have removed so far.

To me, it doesn’t look excessive for 160k miles. There’s a lot of wear but no brass(?) showing so it’s not too deep. I wonder about the odd pattern towards the side of the rod bearing though.

160k no wear is not excessive. How far are you going with this engine out of truck on an engine stand,or working pan off, underneath the truck? What are you trying to accomplish?

Thanks for the replies, like I said in the post where I was asking about the gaskets its been a long time since I have helped with working on motors. I have worked on my personal 4x4 trucks for 40 years. 2wd to 4wd conversion's, lifts, axle swaps, tranmission swaps and most any repair in between, but just not a lot of exposure to the wear of a engines internals. I have always watched TV shows like Powernation and all the others over the years, but putting a part in your hand is a lot different than seeing it on a screen. So thanks for your patience.

Yes the engine is on a stand and I'm taking it all the way down.
