Are crate motors really cheaper?

Buying new pistons and boring oversize all depends on the condition of the cylinder walls. I would like to keep everything basically stock but all those parts sure are tempting.

Big power just means breaking ****, after the big power my clutch would probably explode. After the clutch would be U-joints, after the u-joints it will be the rear end.

Its just a daily driver, I wont be done with it until it looks about what it looked like in 85 and that is it.

350 will be a huge improvement over this 305, as long as it can tow a medium size trailer, keep me from being stranded in snow and mud I will be happy with 250 horses no problem.

Big power doesn't always mean breaking ****. And as far as exploding your clutch, that's pretty hard to do with those truck SM465 clurches. Small 1/2 ton U jonits and driveshafts, you have a point. I broke several until I got a 3/4 ton driveshaft, then that was the end of breaking ****, until I finally broke the M21, then went auto trans, and usually broke a trans about every 2 years. I really needed a hardened input shaft since I ran Th350's. Sounds like you just want to go with an RV cam, your Eddy intake and maybe some headers. That should get you to your 250hp with lots of low end torque.

Just buy a 350 block used in good shape that needs rebuilt and build it up to a 454 Iman.

Can't be done. That 454 small block is an aftermarket made tall block I do beleive.
