Anyone running a Martin Turbo kit?

If you run H2O injection to control temps you have to be very careful to make sure you don't run out. That's what killed a lot of the Turbo 215 motors in the 1963ish Olds F85 Jetfire. They got a poor reputation for reliability because most consumers were not diligent about keeping the alcohol/water reservoir full. The combustion temps got out of control and the pistons melted.

The Jetfires were inexpensive mid-price cars that probably didn't even have a temp gauge. The Olds engineers tuned em close to the hairy edge of destruction and compensated with H2O injection rather than a more expensive approach like an intercooler. I guarantee they didn't have an EGT gauge or even an idiot lamp for EGTs.
What kind of EGT should I avoid? Like what's too hot?

I wouldn't run more than 1100-1200°F pre-turbo and around 900°F post turbo.
My 6.5L runs about that when pulling a trailer up a steep grade. I let it breathe afterward by coasting along while not asking much of the engine and it pulls right back down. Oil temp comes up pretty quick too. When I near 1170°F or so I start to ease off on it. Not sure how a gasser without squirters and ceramic coatings on the domes will react tho.

There are guys that claim to run 1300°F for short periods on the 6.5L diesel. I wouldn't.

Most Aluminum Alloys, like pistonium, melt at or near 1200°F... at 1300°F you can get in real trouble.

Cool thanks! I noticed some gauges went up to 2500. I'll stick with a 1500 max. Thanks for all this helpful information everyone!

I'll be sure to put up some pics! The turbo seems nice and free and has had oil in it while being stored. Im completely new to turbos especially this draw through setup. It has a valve in the intake that acts as a purge valve that regulates boost to 9 psi. If I get close to that I'll be super happy considering the whole kit cost me 200.

Gentlemen, I am so sorry this post is so late in the day, so to speak. I would like to answer some of your questions, though I do not know if you are still interested in any answers because of the delay . My Martin turbo charger isn't on my crew cab, but on my chopped top '67 Buick Special. Forged steel crank 355 with dished top 8:00 to 1 forged pistons and a turbo cam with Roads lifters. Drawing through a Quadrajet carb which I was told works really well with draw through set ups. Also have a 100 hp nitrous plate system to get the turbo off the dime when needed. This setup is pushing a r4 7oo which was built by Jet, when they did that sort of thing. All in all I have less than 40 miles on this at present and am in the process of tuning everything so that it can live and last a long time while giving me some enjoyment. Real quiet set up, so far. This unit has been sitting in my driveway for some time, but I have decided if I am to enjoy it at all, I had better finish. I will get my son to post some photos if there is any interest , either Thursday or Friday. Best wishes everyone , churchill
