After returning from the alignment shop, naturally, that didnt fix the issue.

I did however test things out while cruising.... in drive rolling down the road, if i threw it in neutral, the whine stopped.. so its trans related... then some things occured to me.
It was a brand new rebuild, ive put less than 5k miles on it since i slid it in, and i havent changed the fluid....

Then thinking on it, as i said, fluid is red, not dirty, but has clutch contaminates in it.

Im now about 99% sure it is a pump whine, i need to dump that fluid, and change my filter thats all packed up.

Glad you found the problem! I hope it's not an expensive fix.

I had a whining sound when in D or R, not in N or P. Was told it was transmission pump. After rebuild, haven't heard it since. I have a wall next to the truck where I park and sound reflected more off the wall.

I will be pulling the trans tomorrow. DAMNIT.
The whining got worse today after driving for maybe a constant 45 min.

Thankfully i have a couple spare 4l60e/700r4 planetaries to choose from.

Irony of this ****** situation is, i completely shattered my planetary and forward sprauge in my s10'a 4L60e. Lol

You don't think it could be the pump?

@bucket

I spoke with a guy down the road that used to build transmissions for a living, and now just does it for the local hotrod boys on all types of builds for LS, nitrous, n/a, etc (im learning under him when i encounter a crossroad on my own), he seems pretty convinced its a thrashed planetary also given the details i relayed.

I will be inspecting the pump while im at it for contaminates, i noticed some brass shavings within the pan, which is planetary thrust washers apparently... so its not looking good :(

Thankfully, addressing this NOW will be alot better for the overall health of the trans vs waiting till it explodes and it needs a total overhaul.

It still shifts hard, runs fine, etc etc.

A shop, but.... the backstory to this 700 is, when my original 700 died, i was looking at 800 for a overhaul, or like, 1200 for a 600hp 700r4.

It was picked up cheaper than what he paid because finding someone to buy a transmission thats "good" is hard (trust me, ive tried, ALL transmissions are typically just a core, no matter claims what, i mean face it, from the outside, nobody knows what is goijg on inside there)

My dad contacted the local hotrod network of guys that are near us (me and dad know them), one of the gents had him a fresh 700r4 for his 68 chevelle to go behind his 468, but he decided to LS swap it (gross i know), so we was able to get the 700r4 for dirt cheap...

The sad part here, i dont blame the builder or whatever, the particular planetary apparently is known for being bad and wearing out in 700's and 4L60e's.
So a bit if a crap shoot on that one...

I hate it, but it is what it is.

I'm not gonna say "all 700r4s are trouble"

Im gonna say i punished the transmission daily on less than 600hp, and ran into a bad stroke of luck.

Is what it is. :D

I love doing this **** anyways.

Kinda lousy, i was gonna pull my intake tomorrow and reseal it because i believe i have a leak..... oh well! Next weekend, right?:005:

All I heard from this story was "so there was this guy selling a cheap 468 and a 700r4 so I just bought the 700r4"

:)
