But he also said if he takes it out of gear and puts it in neutral at 70mph or whatever speed he hears it, the noise goes away. If it were u joints, it would still make that noise since there spinning in neutral or drive at speed.

Sometimes sticking u-joints will only make noise while loaded.

But they also make a high pitched squeak and normally will produce a pulsing squeak at even very low speeds, based on road speed. Not the whining, whirring type noise similar to a PS pump, like was described in the first post.

Planetary housing that seats in the sunshell apparently was reused for the "build"

Theres alot of "600hp" parts in this transmission, but some things were reused.

The plantary housing has a .036" divet in it, which is NOT supposed to be there (good one picture <flat>)

This destroyed my brass thrust washer, which in turn send brass shavings thru the trans, damaging a couple brass bushings interally i will have to replace.
All of that slop internally allowed the gears and such inside to whine because they werent running concentric.

Pump housing apparently was never remachined, it has scouring all inside, thus lowering pressure.

the pump also has damage on the snout that mates with the drum, so the pump is no longer usable. Shouldve never been used period.

Old OEM pump from the burbs original transmission has a clean bill of health, so i will reuse it.

Brass thrust washer between planet housing and sunshell.

Right side is good, left side is badly damaged and scoured.

So to you people in readerland, this is NOT another bad 700r4.... this a bad 700r4 build.

Blame the builder, not the transmission.
Bad parts were reused.

Atta boy @Vbb199 Go have a Miller NOW!!!!

I'm on my way to pickup a case of beer, and a couple parts and brake cleaner.

My local trans guy has the bushings that got scoured on rhe shelf, so my only cost in this since i had serviceable parts on hand is a new front TC seal, carb cleaner, and time

Had i not addressed this now, i would need a total rebuild.

I also noticed the pump rotor was reused. It had chatter in it where the PO of the 700r4 didnt install their TC correctly.

The builder just reused that also.

The OEM 1989 rotor from my old trans that had 330k miles on it was in better shape.

Well, at least you noticed the hints of funny noises. Otherwise that sucker could have left your and your family stranded somewhere.

I dont let mysterious noises go long..... no matter how much i might HATE breaking the bad news to myself.

Im very... anal retentive when it come to functionality of my rides. I could care less how it looks, id rather have a sewing machine of a truck that looks like **** than a perfect body and a bad drivetrain.
Ive been paranoid about the insides of that transmission since ive installed, since i personally didnt lay hands on it. I just installed it. I DONT like putting other peoples work in my ****.
