All I heard from this story was "so there was this guy selling a cheap 468 and a 700r4 so I just bought the 700r4"

:)

Right? Lol.
Hes a trustworthy person, "the guys" (people in their 40s-50's) have faith in him.
I trust their judgement

The 700 was never ran before, so it was an ok deal.

Dad's looking to scoop up the 468 (which has been ran, but low miles

The local guys are all older guys, with classic cars, big cubic motors, etc

Its a small network, but all very cool guys. I visit some of them from time to time.

Maybe was a bad choice picking up the 700 since it sat, but im personally not feeling like i got cheated.

Eddy is a good guy, they all have good things to say about him

But going thru this trans will be my personal opportunity to see what the insides look like, so *I* personally will know what im dealing with inside there.... its a personal aggravation of mine to NOT know whats been done to a component on a vehicle...

Ive been thru everything on that truck, just not the trans.

Thats about to change.

A shop, but.... the backstory to this 700 is, when my original 700 died, i was looking at 800 for a overhaul, or like, 1200 for a 600hp 700r4.

It was picked up cheaper than what he paid because finding someone to buy a transmission thats "good" is hard (trust me, ive tried, ALL transmissions are typically just a core, no matter claims what, i mean face it, from the outside, nobody knows what is goijg on inside there)

My dad contacted the local hotrod network of guys that are near us (me and dad know them), one of the gents had him a fresh 700r4 for his 68 chevelle to go behind his 468, but he decided to LS swap it (gross i know), so we was able to get the 700r4 for dirt cheap...

The sad part here, i dont blame the builder or whatever, the particular planetary apparently is known for being bad and wearing out in 700's and 4L60e's.
So a bit if a crap shoot on that one...

I hate it, but it is what it is.

I'm not gonna say "all 700r4s are trouble"

Im gonna say i punished the transmission daily on less than 600hp, and ran into a bad stroke of luck.

Is what it is. :D

I love doing this **** anyways.

Kinda lousy, i was gonna pull my intake tomorrow and reseal it because i believe i have a leak..... oh well! Next weekend, right?:005:
I have seen some coolant on the concrete under my truck that's running down from the back of the engine. I used a mirror to look best I could at the back of the intake. I can't tell anything. Don't seem to be getting coolant in the oil. I'm just pretending I didn't see it right now.

Sometimes, its a necessary evil to pretend you don't see **** on your truck

Yep, I'm putting in a radiator tomorrow...uggg. wood stove will be going so I will take breaks, and it won't take long in the Sequoia. House was in the low 50s when we returned. We heat with wood...takes awhile to heat everything back up.

Nope, I meant you potentially left a cheap 468 behind when you left the guy's place.

Someone says "big block" and my ears usually perk up, lol.

i agree with the power steering pump, but if its like a squealing i'd check to see if your belts are loose, like if it squeals when accelerating or something like that. shot in the dark

Belt in his case. He has a serpentine setup.

In your first post you said the truck had to be rolling, so in most cases that means something other than the engine.

I would check all the universal joints. One dry set of bearings will make it noisy, and might allow flexing/movement as it turns. On my ’75 the double cardan joint on the front driveshaft is a favorite candidate, since it has 3 universal joints and it has to move at greater angles as the axle moves up and down.

But he also said if he takes it out of gear and puts it in neutral at 70mph or whatever speed he hears it, the noise goes away. If it were u joints, it would still make that noise since there spinning in neutral or drive at speed.
