I did disconnect the wire before setting the initial timing.
Not sure what the guy used for break in oil. I'm thinking he used regular oil, not 100% sure though. But, he did prime it he told me. The oil looked good, no shavings or anything like that.

Dude.
Pull the converter cover, grab a flashlight and I bet if you looked close enough that you can SEE the crack in the flexplate.
It'll start at bolt hole and you'll have to turn the motor around likely but you'll not find it staring at the dipstick, Enos.
