So if you have been following my cam swap with a/c thread, you know that I have pulled my engine out, put new heads, cam, intake, headers on it. Engine is back in, bolted to the transmission, engine mounts mounted. Putting the front accessories on and the a/c compressor is about a belt length too far back but the rear top bracket is got a 1/4 inch gap. Compressor has its original front brackets and top rear. Crank pulley lines up with water pump pulley without issue, that makes me think that those pulleys aren't suspect. Heads are summit racing sum-152123 with an Edelbrock performer 2101 manifold.

Check the mounting holes on the heads. Yes, I know they should be the same but the only other thing I can think of is a possible missing spacer or two.

The bracket uses all three holes, and looking at my old heads and my 79 engine, they appear to be all in the same place. As far as I can tell there was/is no spacers for it. It isn't the end of the world as I rarely use the a/c so I can leave the belt off until I decide to deal with it unless I can figure it out.

Update: problem solved. Turns out when you remember that the power steering pump exists, and that the belt doesn't go on the water pump- it works so much better.

Good to hear. Wish mine worked. Found out the compressor is seized last time I accidentally threw it on bi-level.

Before you buy a new one check out your local wrecking yards.

It looks like you have the problem solved; however, the picture below is an old one of my truck when I was still using the A6 compressor.

I later changed to the long PS belt (picture shows the shorter one). The long PS belt goes over the crank, water pump and PS pump so that you keep the water pump turning even if the alternator belt breaks. Based on the Rock Auto parts info, the long PS belt was standard on trucks with A/C.
