'91 Suburban Parts Help

Greetings! New to the forum here. My parents have a 1991 GMC Suburban that they've had since '95 which I will acquire soon. Mechanically it runs great, currently on its 3rd transmission though and cosmetics are rough of course but it's a good truck and lots of memories in it. This is where we need the help though. The window motor in the tailgate is going out but we can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone know where we can find one online? Thanks for any help and I look forward many more good years with the truck.

I've been lucky and have acquired window motors when they were still available new. I guess nowadays they (Cardone maybe?) only offer to rebuild a window motor that you send them.

Does your motor work at all?

Bucket, the window does currently "work" but it's very slow and labored. Sometimes it even requires assistance to be pulled/pushed into position. I saw that rockauto does the same for refurbishing an old one you send in but we were hoping to get a new one on hand before tearing into the tailgate as the latch needs work as well.

Check the harness going to the tailgate. There's a rubber connector under the rear sill area that tends to corrode and it can cause a weak window motor due to the added resistance. Also remove the access cover so you can lube the rollers and tracks. When they get rusty and or dirty, that can cause a weak (seemingly) motor as well.

Sometimes just having strong power and a freely moving regulator can make all the difference in the world.

That all sounds simple and easy. I'll have to give it a try and see how that works out. Thanks for the advice.

My 83 burb has the split ambulance door...The mechanism that operates the passenger side has proven to be a bear to find. If you come across one in your searches HMU.

Look at G-vans too. They work the same way, but I can't remember if they are the same latch or not.

I seem to have the same issue, nobody seem to have a new one or rebuilt?
