Towman is right. Its a good thing the crack was obvious or you may have reinstalled it thinking it was fine. So how is the condition of your cylinder walls? What kind of ridge in the cylinders? Do you see any crosshatch pattern left? By the looks of those pics, the cylinders look to be very glazed over and shiney.
If bucket is sure those are good workable heads he has, you might consider finding out what his price for them is and shipping. If they are functional in good shape, you'd be better off with good used heads than a new reworked resurfaced head. You don't want to raise your compression ratio with new heads on an older tired bottom end. I'd also have waited to put the other head on and replace them in a set, even if it was used set. Or, I'd have bought 1 good core and had both reworked but not resurfaced if they didn't need it. Of course resurfacing won't hurt much if you are using a thicker compostion gasket and the OEM was much thinner which usually is the case. But even new ground seats and new valve guides will raise compression a hair just in being new and sealing better. Good Luck Dawg, keep us updated.

Soak that antifreeze and water out of those cylinders ASAP and spray with WD-40 to displace the water and dry them. Rust can start in a very very short time. Also, I'd plan on changing the oil since you had some water get into the cylinders unless you know how much water leaked past the rings and got into the oil pan. Water will not lubricate at all and you would risk seizing the bearings.

I turned the motor over by hand a few times to let the pistons come up and push that **** out, sprayed the entire top of the motor with a heavy coat of WD-40 and covered it up with cloth. I will check on it every night or two during the week to make sure I don't get that surface rust **** growing. :waytogo:

That's some good progress! Sucks that the head is cracked, but at least you caught it before reassembly. Nothing worse than having to pull it apart again to fix the original issue.
