Hello. Been lurking these forums for a long time but can't find an answer to my question. I have a 87 silverado 2500 (R20) and the stock wheels are 16x7. I'm trying to upgrade to a 17" wheel. Are there any year trucks that come with a 17" 8 lug that will fit my truck? Trying to go cheap and possibly fid some stock wheels from a junk yard. Thank you.

Welcome to GMSB Eaglet !!!

Yes, I've seen a 85 C20 (Same as R20) with some OEM 2002 Chevy 8 lug Aluminum wheels that looked sharp as hell. That guy scored those for $150 for the set. Just a matter of watching Craigslist and keeping your eyes open.

Thank you for the quick reply! Would you happen to know any other years that would work as well? Was thinking maybe anything around a 5 year difference might fit? Any help is appreciated. Thanks again!

I beleive that is the same body style as 99-2008 or 2009. I'd imagine should all be the same wheels. I'll see if I can find a pic of truck with those wheels I'm talking about.

Yep- those fit (they are called PY0 wheels). There is a '78 K20 here locally for sale with a set of those on it. They are made of forged aluminum. Also off of the same year Silverado they had a set of steel wheels (PY2). Some were painted, others in chrome. Wheel size is 16x6.5" and they have 4.875" of backspacing.

They did make a steel wheel only on the 3500 with the single rear wheel option (NZ7). Those are 16x7" but are hard to find.

If you are really wanting a 17" wheel stock wheel then the only thing I can think off is the Hummer 2 stock wheels. They are 17x8.5" and are the standard 8x6.5" pattern. Once you take the ugly center cap off and put on a "normal" Chevy/GMC center cap they look really nice.

And they look pretty damn good on Squares. In fact the truck I seen them on first, I ended up buying after it got wrecked front and rear and a bent frame. The guy had sold the wheels to another square owner and put the OEM wheels back on the wreck then I bought it for $150.

You can also run Dodge wheels, but beware the pattern changed about when GM changed theirs too.
