86 Sierra cuts off while driving. Seems to flood.

Recently, mine did that. After new filter in carb, new fuel pump and 2 tows, had the tank pulled and the sock on the pickup was sealed with crud.

Who'da thot that would be bad after 46 years?

Mine did that. I replaced it with a $2000 efi.

Cheap, Fast, Reliable. You can choose two, but, you can't have three.

Okay. So I put a new filter in the carb today and have been driving it. Still has the hard start problem after it sits for a little while. I think the fuel bowl may be emptying while it sits. It will bog at idle every once in a while but not so much that it will cut off.

It hasnt cut off on me while driving yet. I may pull the tank and carb off tomorrow. Something is still screwy with it. If I pull the carb and see a sign of fuel leaking into the intake, I will rebuild. I need to clean the fuel tank and sock out anyways...34 year old truck.

Call her a few times to come rescue you when you're broke down in the middle of the night. Usually after the third time they no longer care about the cost, they just want it fixed. I've used that approach more than once. You can even be proactive and pull a wire off or a fuse now and then. Genius!

Also check that a critter hasn’t made a home in the bowl vent.

I think I sold a 454 bare block today, 2 bolt main late 73 dated .030 over. Just what the guy was looking for. He's gonna build a 427, got a 6223 crank Hyperutectic pistons , good heads etc. Gonna put it in 70 Nova 4spd, 12 bolt. Sounds FUN! He also got a 7 qt. pan from me, all cash. Guess who showed up just as he was handing me the money? Wife says ,"well, now you can buy your own tires for the car trailer, can't you". Can't win for losin
