I recently picked up an old, tired 1986 M1008. My detective work says the cab and frame are in fact an Army truck but the drivetrain and axles were pillaged over the years. The truck has a Dana 44 front axle, 12-bolt rear axle, a 350 SBC (removed), an SM465 trans, and NP-208 transfer case.

The donor power plant is a mix of an LM7 and an L59. The engine (intake to oilpan) is an 04 LM7. The harness, PCM, tac module, pedal, etc. are from a 2005 flex fuel suburban I found in a local junkyard. My goal is to marry the two together in the truck and get it up and running with the current drivetrain before looking for a 14-bolt, Dana 60, and a more modern manual trans.

fter cleaning it up and getting conflicting info with two VIN numbers on the truck I am fairy confident it is an M1008 based on the partial VIN on frame, VIN, plaques, and dash support in cab.

Looks like a roller lifter gave up the ghost and trashed the cam.

The block looks good with a minor amount of wear in the cylinders.

It cleaned up pretty nicely at the machine shop, but I sandblast, pressure wash, and paint later.

Pilot bearing because I don't do automatics. Looking to do the advanced adapters kit to mount my SM465. I've also heard about a Sachs flywheel that will let it mount right up.

Starting the reassembly process. I hate the OTC angle dial tool I bought for what it's worth.

Hand lapping valves, rebuilding heads, and installing BTR trunnion upgrade. Who needs a hydraulic press when you have a Harbor Freight vise?
