The starter is either defective or damaged. Its case is not holding together

I think your bolts are probably SOL and your starter obviously too and you may want to look at the threads of your bolts because well just do

Starter is new, the old starter did same thing. New bolts are like $15 I can acquire new bolts. I’m just trying to get it fixed before it’s a flywheel I’m having to replace

you are spot on, make sure you have the right bolts installed. I went thru the same problem for years because one of the bolts got stripped and the previous owner just grabbed what ever he had to fix it.

They’re gm starter bolts from a 70’s c10 I have as a parts truck. The only difference was the style of the knurl. They tightened it up some but there’s still a little movement.

If those are your videos, you can see the the starter is not engaging all the way on the flywheel. Have of every tooth is shiny from the image on the other bolts video.

Is there any way to make the bendix deploy farther? I noticed that too. I figured since it was most of the teeth it was fine I didn’t know how far it should go.

I went thru numerous starters on that truck, I had a 396 in it. I know you want to get it right so you can sell it. I'd ask about a replacement small high torque starter I know someone on here has done that. I'm sure your getting tired of hold that heavy pos to get it removed and reinstalled.

I’ve only dropped it on my head twice sadly. Once in this truck and once in my 87. It was a little worse in the 87 since it sits higher. I was reading earlier about “mini” starters they sound great but I can’t find a “Remy PG260” anywhere. I don’t really plan on selling it atleast anytime soon. I’d bought the truck originally to drive while completely redoing my 87 but I’ve had constant problems with something in this truck so I haven’t fully committed to driving it and taking apart my red one.

Also is the Battery cable going to the starter original, If so I would replace it. A lot of amperage going thru that cable and if it is corroded at all the load is not correct.

No it’s not original. Some point it’s been changed to top post connectors and they’re both black. Pisses me off. Atleast the ends are black and red but wires are both black. I’m looking into replacing them because they’re just the ends where you strip some slide it in and tighten two bolts. I also noticed today now that you mention the cables, the positive got warm after all the slow cranking.
