The tailgate will not close unless I pull the handle while slamming. I went to figure out how to adjust this and I don't see any way to do that. I could add some shims near the rubber grommet possibly.

Does anyone know how these are adjusted?

I have to do that on my truck as well, pull the handle open and give it a strong shove, then release the handle before I back off of the shove. I've never looked into it, I'd definitely be interested to know if there is an adjustment. It may well just be that you/I need new hardware

I just spray my moving parts with lube and then the tailgate can be shut easier than closing the door on the cab. I know when it's time reapply the lube, I'll have to shut the tailgate by pulling the handle.
