That's super cool. You HAVE TO call the old guy now, hopefully he's still kicking and working on old Chevys

Fully planned on it! I'd been meaning to call him anyway. For years he has had an '86 Camaro sitting around that I'd really like to have as a parts donor. I just hope he's actually still around, I haven't talked to him in a couple years.

I got to work on the carburetor, when I flipped it over and looked at the base gasket, I was surprised to see that there were only ever two mounting bolts to start with.

The carb base still has 4 mounting holes, but the gasket is only designed for two.

It's relatively clean inside and the accelerator pump is actually ok-ish too.

I have to get a kit for it though. It turns out that all my extra parts are for pre-'66 models. Napa charges $43 for a kit now and that's with no float. I think the last time I bought one, it was less than 20 bucks.

I need a choke pulloff too, it seems to be a dud.

And here's the spot on the door that looks like a blend repair was done many many years ago:

^Notice the halo area and of course the light purple sealer that's under the scuffed black paint.

But then I noticed the same sealer color under peeling paint on the lower A-pillar:

I'm 99.9% positive that the car wears the same paint it was delivered with in '73. I feel obligated to measure and document the lower stripe layout. From previous research, nobody seemed to know the exact layout of the striping.

Sounds like my truck, have a non repaired dent behind the front fender on the cab, and a bondo repair in the drivers rocker, plus the driverside door and fender are a lot never than the passenger side. Thanks Dad!

I enjoy reading your long posts. Did you go see Frank yet?

Nope, not yet. I don't plan on working all day tomorrow, maybe I'll give him a call tomorrow afternoon.

Got occupied and forgot to call Frank today. I forgot to eat lunch too.

All the carb parts got a good bath in the parts washer but the results were far less than stellar. I will get a pail of carb dip and see how that goes.

The chrome on the bumpers is S-H-O-T. I wasn't expecting them to clean up very well, but after hitting them with steel wool they still look the same. Dingy. I noticed the rear bumper is tweaked in a couple places too. The front bumper bracket bolts have all got a bath in PB Blaster, in preparation for pulling that sucker in closer to the body.

I mounted up my custom painted IROC wheels to the driver's side to see what I think about them. I'm not sure what I think. But @Rusty Nail they aren't spray painted black, they are Chrysler Graphite in base/clear, lol. With lots of barn dust.

Sure better than the S10 14's and flat tires though.

Shine up the tires and I’m betting it’ll make a big difference

Hey hey hey, just because the tires are one of the lightest things in the picture does not automatically mean they need shined up
