My 700r4 just blew and am thinking about a manual swap since i was about to swap a vortec 350 in anyway. I think i have np246? (86 k10 with chain driven transfercase)

What would i need for the manual swap? I need overdrive so i guess a nv3500 or 4500 would be the best option? I dont tow or anything so the OD and "honda" shifting sound awesome.

I know this is being discussed in another thread but my truck is 4wd and i need OD. Also I need the truck back on the road relatively soon.

anything other than a 4 speed is going to require modifications to the driveshafts and cross member. The nv3500 is the lighter duty of the 2 and can be broken broken by v8 torque, the 4500 is much stronger. You will also need the pedals and clutch master cylinder for the truck. Flywheel for the vortec engine, bell housing, slave cylinder and lines.

I have the flywheel for an older 350 would that work or does the vortec use different flexplates and flywheels?

Thanks. Ive never swapped a manual before so dont really know whats involved. Im also confused about the bellhousing. Would it use an adapter or something? I was under the impression that the bellhousings were the same but did read somewhere that they had changed them. What do you have to do when they are different?

bolt pattern is the same the only reason they are different is the different transmission. and its clutch linkage/hydraulic slave cyl.

Im sorry I was confused by what you meant by the bellhousing being different.

So same bolt pattern, different mounting points?

From what I understand its the crossmember, driveshafts, clutch pedal and linkage, clutch and flywheel that i need to address? What about using the stock np208?

I’ve been happy with the NV-3500

98-07 were the best and final years

With any auto to manual swap you will need pedals
The later model hydraulic pedals are pricy and hard to find

I just used the older normal clutch pedal and drilled a hole in the pedal and bolted the clutch master push rod to the pedal

And had a local shop make a hose to run to the slave cylinder

The 3500 will bolt right up to a 350
But you will have to do some research to figure out which flywheel you need

I don’t remember if I had to swap flywheels or not when I went from a SM-465 to the NV3500

A NP-208 transfer case 31 spline from behind a TH-400 auto trans will bolt to the 3500
You need a 31 spline , round bolt pattern
Some had a figure 8 bolt pattern and some had 27 splines

My teenage son has been banging Thru the gears of a 3500 , behind a 350 and then a LS 5.3 for several years and it hasn’t broken yet

The t case behind Your 700r4 May have the right bolt pattern and splines to bolt to a 3500
I’m not sure .

Yes, 32 spline. 31 spline is a Ford thang.

Good Luck finding the parts to do that even. I'd imagine it'd be easier to do an NV3500 swap. No they're not as strong as an NV4500 but the better years of the NV3500 is fairly reliable and will put up with some abuse. A buddy and I were pretty rough on a couple of them several years ago.

Id rather not have to modify my crossmember and driveshaft setup... other than the tranny, and maybe the 32 spline np 208, the rest of the parts should be easy to find right? I might would have to source new parts but otherwise im paying to have my tranny rebuilt.. and itll cost more to change shiftpoints etc too right?

same mount points to the engine transmission can be different, they could also be different depending on the slave cylinder design.

By the time you spent all the money and time to do an A833 swap, you probably could have done a 4L80-E Swap. I too would love to do an A833 swap and had the chance to do it too. To bad fundage and the whole ******** of selling my house to avoid foreclosure, it was all sold for a band-aid just to buy me a couple more months in hopes to hang on to the house which didn't happen anyway.
