454 secondary air filter screen?

Anybody know about a secondary mesh filter inside of the air cleaner on a 454? Mine has one and it looks pretty blocked. I'm thinking of taking it out, however it is attached with some sort of glue or goop.

I removed one, the butt dyno said there was an improvement when the throttle was mashed. You basically have to destroy it to remove it from the filter housing.

yea,, its just a charcoal vapor collector that gm came up with for some smog crap,, id tear it out....

i havent seen one of those in years,, most people i know thats the first thing they get rid of,, and it will run better also.......

Ok, it is out, truck seems to idle better. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet.
