What is getting you confused? What other information are you looking for? What other information are you finding? The info you are putting about the 1974 full sized with a t400 police is what I find all over. Since it was cast and assembled at the end of October it would go for the next model year just as @legopnuematic stated.

Okay so was it in a 1975 full size or was it in a 1974 full size? I have to know exactly what it was in to buy the correct parts for it. Someone said it was in a 75 truck and others have said 74 car with the t400 behind it. That’s why I’m getting confused because different people are saying different things.

The engine was made in 1974 but put into a 1975 vehicle. The amount of interchangeable parts is amazing don't really need an exact model and year, but if you need parts ask for a 1975 full size Chevy car then. If I'm not mistaken Full size is in regards to a cars such as Caprice, Bel Air and such. I'm not sure if they made Police model Squares.

Hmm......maybe it's about time I made one then.

Small block Chevy's are so interchangeable that it for the most part doesn't matter, you can put a 79 oil pan on a 283 with 305 vortec heads. What parts do you need for it?

Needs new distributor cap, new flywheel, manifold gaskets, plugs, wires, oil change with filter, possibly rear main seal, etc. It honestly needs a total rebuild but can’t afford that.

The only things I see that might need more info for would be for the flywheel (might need tooth count, or depending on size of harmonic balancer), manifold (for exhaust if you have headers they might ask if you have square or round port, intake has no difference), and spark plugs (light duty or heavy duty no big difference if it is in a daily driver heat range is different only). Everything else should be the same unless you are looking for different levels of quality.

Not sure on the flywheel specs. The vehicle it was in had a granny 4 speed in it and I’m putting a built 700r4 behind it in my truck. As far as manifolds, I’m putting a set on off a 90’s model throttle body because my grandpa had that engine in it before and the exhaust is still setup for that engine and I’m not switching it. I’m just needing it to run and drive. I can’t afford to build anything. I don’t have a vehicle so this will be a daily for now. Eventually I’ll rebuild the engine and give it a little more hp but nothing crazy.

Just to clarify ,GM didn't use I in their Date codes , if I remember correctly. So September 21 74? Not a big difference either way, most sbc stuff will fit.

I’ll either need one with 153 or 168 teeth right? Are the center hole diameter different?

Yup either 153 or 168, the balancer changes also depending on which of the two you have.

Also I was curious on what everyone thought about oil filters cause I’ve heard very different options over the years. For several years I’ve been stuck in a Ford and always used motorcraft filters. I’m debating between the AC DELCO and the K&N High Performance filter.

I’ll count the teeth on the flywheel I took off of it.
