Dammit this thread is causing flashbacks. The shop I worked at most,was opened in the late 60s,we had 9 service bays,a customer shuttle, a machine shop,a parts department,a lettered parts vehicle to deliver parts,and a showroom where we sold tons of aftermarket stuff. We were blocks from city hall and the police department, plenty of police as clients,there was no doubt,that we were a 100% legit shop. But still as late as early 2000s we would park unclaimed customer cars on the street until they were towed away by the city. Mechanics lien, yea,right. It was easier to let the city tow them and eat the loss. I thought it was crazy when I started working there,but the owners told me" if we park them on the street,and the city tows them,there's a record,and we can't be accused of stealing them"

The mechanics's lien used to be a simple process in Ohio. I don't remember the exact details of the process, but basically you'd fill out a form, send it certified mail to the registered owner. Then one of three things could happen. They would come and pay their bill and get their car, they would respond to the letter and release the vehicle right away, or they simply wouldn't respond and then we would gain ownership after a certain amount of time. But the laws changed about 15 years ago and made it basically impossible to gain ownership of abandoned cars.

It was almost always a car that had not yet been repaired, whether it be wrecked or mechanical issues. Some we would repair and sell, others we would simply have hauled off as junk. I kinda miss those days. I got a lot of good parts for free.

I'll never understand how people can't keep track of a single piece of paper that is pretty important. Pisses me off actually, I know **** happens but come on man, every other truck I see has no title.

I saw a guy say he didn't have a title, but he could get one for a fee!!!!
The fee is your $1500 overprice ya asshat. What good is a $3000 vehicle with no title??

I lost a title once. I'm still pretty certain I put it in my toolbox with other paperwork, but it seems to be gone.

It's not a big deal I guess, it wound up being a parts truck that I cut up anyway. But I still have the dash and the frame, so it'd be nice to have the title for it.

Absolutely agree with all of the above. I won’t buy a rig without a title unless it’s just for parts. I was just saying that, depending on the state you’re in, it may be worth looking into.

And I also agree with keeping track of a title. If a person has “lost” the title red flags automatically go up for me. Such as wondering if the vehicle is stolen at some point or is the person just an idiot or drug addict…..when I buy a vehicle, the title immediately goes to a safe deposit box as soon as I get it in my name. Then there’s no question where it’s at.

Dang!! I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Did have to chuckle tho at the "straight and cancer free" then goes on to talk about the rust you see in the pics lol
