Dammit this thread is causing flashbacks. The shop I worked at most, was opened in the late 60s,we had 9 service bays,a customer shuttle, a machine shop,a parts department,a lettered parts vehicle to deliver parts, and a showroom where we sold tons of aftermarket stuff. We were blocks from city hall and the police department, plenty of police as clients, there was no doubt, that we were a 100% legit shop. But still as late as early 2000s we would park unclaimed customer cars on the street until they were towed away by the city. Mechanics lien, yea, right. It was easier to let the city tow them and eat the loss. I thought it was crazy when I started working there, but the owners told me" if we park them on the street, and the city tows them, there's a record, and we can't be accused of stealing them"
