I did some research on the tuning and I definitely don’t want an out of the box tune. I was thinking about going with black bear.

I had them do mine 6 years ago or so. I went with the AutoCal option and have been happy.

I have an 08 2500. been mostly happy with it, with a few notable exceptions. the dashes crack, so there is that issue. I also am having a rust issue, bed is rusty, and have a hole under the rear passenger door. I might expect that from something that saw mud or dirt every day, and never got washed, but I live in town and wash the truck regularly. mine has the 6 speed, seems to be all right, except its apparently a "learning" transmission, so if I vary my driving style, it sometimes acts confused. have had it checked, was told it checked out fine. also, some years had transfer case problems, the chain would wear a hole in it and you lose your fluid. finally, I have read that they have a problem with exhaust manifold bolts breaking. idk if that's all engines, or just the 6.0, but ill be replacing mine with arp this spring. other than those things, it runs good and pulls anything I can put behind it.

Don't mean to sound ignorant but just what does AFM and DOD stand for? I have an '07 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive with the 5.3 and overdrive tranny.

Atm=active fuel management
Dod = displacement on demand

They are the same system. Basically tells the system to only use 4 cylinders in the effort for fuel economy but it’s a useless system that doesn’t work and is a huge failure

The 07 is a split year, there's a classic, that looks like my 03 and has the same drivetrain as 99-06, and then the GMT900, that had all the new stuff and six speed autos.

Thanks Gents for the replies. I guess mine does not have the DOD option. My '07 is the new body style.

I friend of mine bought a new '10 K1500 GMC. One of them Rocky Ridge/Z92 trucks. It was actually a pretty good truck with the 5.3 motor. It pulled a 10k load pretty well too, but the rear springs squatted very easily. He had no troubles with the truck, but got traded for a '14.

If it looks like this, it has DOD, or, AFM Displacement on Demand, Active fuel management, same thing. All 5.3's got it. 6.0's in HD's did not.

I got a truck today. It’s a 2009 with 159k miles. I looked it over hard and from what I could tell it’s in good shape. Now I just have to figure out where to go from here.

Were you there today then, lol? A friend of mine wanted to bid on some equipment but it went for way too much. The company I work for also sold 3 trucks there today.

Yep I was there. I thought stuff went pretty reasonable. What company do you work for? there were a few other trucks I was interested in. It could have been one of theirs.

Had an 07 Silvy Classic. Check the tranny feeds to the cooler - tubes tend to rub against the tranny - sported a leak while driving 50+ MPH on a poorly maintained county road in North Georgia coming home from work. By the time i found out it was leaking - tranny got cooked.

Other than that no issues. Traded it (150k on the dash) for 10 Tahoe to keep my crap dry and haul kids and their friends around town/trips.

I work for a farming company a few miles away. We were just watching online, instead of working, lol. There was a lot of things that went cheap, just not the stuff he wanted. We sold two 6500's and a 7500 with a 20 foot dump.

Okay, I'll check into that. It doesn't seem to cut down on cylinders when cruising down the highway.
