2003 g3500 box truck. Kind of runs, somewhat drives. 6.0 motor, missing reverse. Will need to figure out the transmission eventually. And major vibrations at speed as well.
Assuming it is 4l80e, but have not actually climed under it yet. Maybe Allison.

I think the Allison only came behind the 8.1 and the duramax.

And only in the HD line of trucks. Duramax vans and 8.1 Burbs got the 4L80E.

Good info, I was thinking it was across all lines with the Allison.

This was built as incomplete, chassis only. So was not sure if certain weight required an Allison or if it was engine based. Still assuming 4l80e, but not much info on these. Question is where did reverse go. Need to test 1st gear engine break to see if that works. Might just need to rebuild or replace the transmission

"Incomplete, chassis only" in the case of the G-van means rolling chassis with power train and a van cab section. It's shipped as a running and driving vehicle, just with the rear body missing.

Good info, I was thinking it was across all lines with the Allison.

Apparently with the Burbs and Avalanches, the Allison doesn't have enough clearance in the trans tunnel. So they got the 80E and the 10.5 diff, like a 6.0 HD did (6.0 Burbs got the 9.5 diff, like a light duty 2500 truck). I'd guess it's the same story with the Duramax vans. Still to this day, the vans get a severely detuned Duramax and a 4L80E.

Vans have always been step childs. They never get the good stuff anyway. Even many of the 1 ton vans got glorified 3/4 ton rear axles. Vans were also late at getting LS powerplants in comparison to trucks.

Though the C&C Imcomplete vans did get full floating rear axles.

Clearly I’m no expert. I’ve never seen the Allison behind a 6.0 but that’s not proof it never happened. As far as I know an Allison behind a 6.0 was never factory but like I said...

The only gas engine that an allison has ever left the factory behind, was an 8.1 ltr.
