I have a old farm truck that needs a little tinkering but the day i bought it i stuck the kry in went somewhere parked. Got out and the chrome key piece that u turn to start fell off. How do i reinstall this piece without pulling the steering wheel to install it or a new ignition lock cylinder?.

Ive tried aligning up the slot on it bit it wont go in straight not even if i tap on it.


Also i found these #'s on my intake 14007376. GM K8.

What engine do i have. Ive looked for engine block numbers but no luck.

I was told that it was a 400 motor. Im not sure a 350 intake fits a 400 motor so im believing i have a 400 sbc in it. Plus the torque and power from it makes me believe so. Ive never drove a stockish 350 that put out like this. Even though my 4 barrel dont work. (Only 2) factory quadrajet and for the life of me i cant figure out if its a double pumper or vacuum control. Im missing alot of vacuum lines and on top of all that egr valve is blocked off but since i tuned my carb i cant tell its bad on gas. I could guess its 15-20 mpg

I think your gonna have to get a new ignition switch assembly not sure though

Easiest way to tell if you have a 400 and look at the harmonic balancer it has a large indent for balancing purposes, it doesn't look like a 350 balancer which is perfectly round all the way

Indent being on the edges or the face of it.

I had that chrome piece fall off once, I cut a key that was the mid 90's car style that had the big "handle" on it. It made it easy to turn. But I did end up replacing the ignition lock to fix it right.

The Grant wheels have an adapter kit to make them fit our trucks.

Some info on the lock cylinder - from the 1977 service manual that might be of help (includes the directional switch R & R procedure - unfortunately it has to come out to service the lock cylinder):

The lock plate tool can be bought at most parts stores. It's cheap too.

What exactly makes the lock plate so hard to install that u must have a tool. Ive pulled steering wheels but none of which i needed a special tool to re-install it.

Lock plate tool is required because of the fact the plate is held in with a c-clip if I remember and under pressure from a large spring. Without the tool your not getting it off.

Right, you need it to get to anything after the steering wheel is removed.
