While the boy painted the springs and plates, I was all over cleaning the grime off the rearend.
I used the same wire wheel in the drill and a wire brush too.

After the springs were done and dry, it was time to paint the rearend.

Yesterday I was looking at the Sub sitting there on its jack stands with no axle or springs.
Then it dawned on me, we should replace the exhaust now while there is nothing in the way.
You can see just how shot the tailpipe is here.
Many holes and the end is just plain rotted off...

Through the many trips to the junkyard I have collected a few "fresh" tail pipes for the low price of $12 each.
It has all the stock hangers on it and every thing.
I selected the best one to install and it happened to be a mandrel bent full 3 inch pipe, not the 2 3/4 inch that they came with. I had one of those as well...

This poor Flowmaster has over 100,000 miles on it over the 17 years it has been installed.
Fear not as it will live on, Max's buddy wanted something better for his Cherokee and this will fit the bill.
He will weld it back up and put it in...

Enter the next Jones Flow Pack 3 inch muffler.
I put a set of these on the pickup truck and it sounds pretty mean, this should do well too.

We did have to make up a section of piping, so I went to the parts store and found a 18" piece of 3 inch.

It was just a touch short, so I had junior butt weld the new piece to the tailpipe.
This would be his first time with a welder and he did just fine for a first time, it just has to penetrate.

*Don't mind all the stanky smoke, it has been sitting and not running while it is being worked on.

Thank you all.
The boy is lightyears ahead of where I was at his age.
I am happy to be able to guide him into doing something fun for a hobby.
He has video games, but doesn't really ever touch them, he would rather work on a car or tractor or something...

We definitely need more young men like him in our fragile society.

You can see his buddy in the background, he is lifting his Cherokee in my front yard.
I try to encourage all his buddies to have a good time.
They all have my phone number and ask me questions.

Just before COVID became a thing, I took them all the the swap meet to shop for speed parts.
On the way home I bought them all lunch at Hoooters.

I don't know which is closer to heaven: being in a well stocked wrecking yard with killer prices, or surrounded by a bevy of buxom Hooters girls! :happy175:

Most wrecking yards are running out of Square Body parts...........BUT there's ALWAYS gonna be good looking girls hanging around, if you got a GM Square Body truck!!!!!
