What about your pump though? I think it's currently to blame for lack of assist at low speed. Even though it's fresh, it must be very week. Adding a ram will likely tax it even more.

Truck idles at about 800.if I get it up to 1000, I can steer the wheel with 1 finger. Weird.

I can upgrade the pump to a PSC pump, or go thru some documentation I have wrote down about modifying a stock pump to flow higher.

Theres also the concept of smaller pulleys to overdrive it too.

I got documentation I educated myself on about modifying a stock pump to run comparable to a PSC pump. It'll require lathe work however.

Oh and to add to this @bucket, I still haven't moved the drag link 1 hole up yet.

For example, and excuse the redneck terminology, there's a hardened valve in the pump you can drill out with a carbide drill, it's like a restrictor valve. That can be drilled thru to allow a higher rate of flow, the inlet and outlet holes can be drilled out bigger to flow more. You can also use small diameter hydraulic lines to up line pressure to the ram, and with a 60 and almost 40" tire, a ram about 3/4 in diameter would work fine, which won't steal too much fluid pressure. But either way, if you want quick responsive steering with a ram, the pump will need to be modified to flow more.

Went to the local tractor supply to see if they had a 1x8 ram. And of course they don't. At least not on the shelf. But they do have 1/4 lines, so I'm gonna go ahead an purchase those since I need them.

When I saw this thread near the top I thought you were selling this one too.

That one hole might make a good difference. But I just think the pump was rebuilt with poor tolerances. Assuming it was a rebuilt unit of course.

So, I think I already stated, I'm gonna get a locker for the dana 60 front axle. A Yukon grizzly locker.
Works like a Detroit, but uses tire speed differences instead of sheer traction, (similar I know), and it unlocks better on turns. Overall has a little better manners than a standard Detroit.

With that, I'm gonna go ahead and get a 1.5 or 1.25 x 8 ram for the 60 from PSC, and a upgraded pump to power it.

So, moving forward.

I want to hit up the local yard and pickup a np241 from a Full size OBS, it'll already be a driver's drop, use VSS, no plugs, wires, hassle, bs, etc etc.
Assuming it'll also be manual shift, which I want.

Now, previously I learned a squarebody np208 will bolt behind the s10's 4l60e.
The np241 eventually replaced the np208.
SO.
Does anyone have any reason to believe a np241 from a early obs truck wouldn't bolt behind my s10's 4L60e?
Most obs 4x4s used a np241 in conjunction with a 4l60e.

Opinions? Thoughts?

Thanks

Additionally, does someone have a OBS np241 lying around they can give me a spline count, picture, and maybe adapter TO transmission bolt pattern?

I wanna compare before I commit to buying one. I can have one now for probably 200 from the local yard. Last I was there, he had one sitting in the school bus full of t cases.

They fit the same as far as a 208. 27 spline for the 60e, like a 700r4. And 32 spline for the 80e, like a th400. Same 6-bolt round pattern on the case. The 700/60E adapter is the same up until they went to the 6-bolt pattern on the transmission tail, but I don't remember what year that change happened.

So, as long as the np241 I'm in search of has a 4 bolt pattern for the transmission tail, I'll be good?
Just looking for 27 spline. Like a 1/2 ton, and some 3/4 Tons

I want manual shift too. I want to do away with that stupid vaccuum case like what's in the s10.
There's something screwy about it now anyways... I engaged 4x4 with the front shaft still in the truck, started in high, didn't hear the shaft beating around under the truck, put it in low, I noticed a difference, but still nothing in the front.

I don't quite know how it works, but I know one time I blew a rear end in the old setup, and tried to just put it in 4x4 to get home, front shaft was dead. No action.

That's correct about the 4-bolt adapter. If you still have the one from that Suburban, it will work too.

I thought the vacuum nonsense only engaged the front diff? Much like the thermo linear actuator on the '88-up full sized trucks.

The s10 just has a lo/hi switch on the console.
Otherwise it just rides in 2wd.

I think you're right. I think it just engages the front diff... So essentially, without the front diff there, I'll never have 4x4 anyway.
Or it's a spraug kinda case... It torque is applied to the front and it engages 4x4.

Im not really up to wasting money on extended driveshafts, all the find out I can't have 4x4.

OK, just a brief search on the s10 forum, it's what I heard, if you want to use the t case that's in the truck, unplug all the vacuum lines at the t case on the actuator, cap off the line coming from the engine, remove everything else.
I didn't do that.
Might be why 4x4 doesn't work, a vacuum line...
I could forsee that being a pain if it gets mud and water in it.
(as long as the engine doesn't take in water, I don't care if axles, tranny and t case get water logged)
Tranny is on borrowed time. I figure this time when the 3rd transmission quits, I'll rebuild it instead of rolling the dice on junkyard transmissions.

I fully intend on punishing it until it grenades, or just fails.
I have a extra one lying around I can rebuild and drop in.

Np233 is the push button t case
Np231 is manual shift

I only want to step up to a np241 because I'm concerned about those incredibly dinky output yokes.

And not to mention, the rear slip yoke. I don't think there's a SYE for the s10 case. But I think there is one for a np241, or is it already a fixed yoke @bucket?

Not a fixed yoke, but you can get the kit for a 241.
