Fuel filter is on passenger frame rail, changed it when I got the truck since it sat for 6 years :p if I remember correctly it was hard into and out of filter.

Well if I do drain the fuel out of line and disconnect everything, reckon I should spray off the throttle body? Clean er up? Should I use throttle body cleaner? Or can I use carb cleaner?

As far as I’m concerned a little bubbling is no big deal, but if it’s frothy like after you shake what’s left in the bottom of the milk jug. Then you’ve got an issue. I’m not sure if I’ve got a head gasket issue or what’s going on. It’s being very odd, first time thermostat opens it opens around when it should then next time is a little higher temp and then next a little higher and so on.
Yes just some angry bubbling. And the big radiator hose near the intake has kinda sunkin in on it self not that restricted but no radiator leak

@Hugomartin how old is the hose? If it’s collapsing it’s probably deteriorated. How does the hose feel? Super soft and squishy like a balloon? Is it hard and crunchy? Or does it feel normal and good condition?

The fuel pumps on his truck should be in the gas tanks on an 87 TBI.

The sending unit pump assembly is in the tank, I’ve replaced the tank. The filter itself is on passenger frame rail around the joint between bed and cab. This photo is over a year old it was before the truck had tint

penetrating fluid. disconnect the line where ever the fuel filter is, that should allow gas to be drained from the upper end by the TB (I dont know where the TBI fuel filter is tbh), but I would seriously make sure you CAN remove it since youre doing this work since you would rather do it now than figure it out when its less convenient and you needed to disconnect it.

If you get a flare wrench with 6 hex and soak it in some fluid, you should be able to negotiate it. But if its hardline all you can see, it tells me somewhere its prob rubber down on the frame somewhere because the fuel pump pulses would crack a line if it didnt have a twist loop or a rubber section somewhere.

Yes. I figured the tank had a fuel pump, But I assume the fuel filter is on the rail somewhere(frame)?

Is carb cleaner a good choice to clean the throttle body if I completely remove it? Or should I use throttle body cleaner

Got the tab cleaned up, checked the timing before messing with anything and in my opinion it was closer to 5/6° not 8. I also retarded it a bit much. Is at around 4/5 ° retarded now. I’ll replace the gasket and set it back to 0 and go from there.

Got the gasket changed. Started up at 1200(way lower than usual and started a little faster) and is not idling around 900/950. Should the next move be the iac bypass? Or tweak timing?

Holy moly. Idled down I reckon after the computer finally started to get along and learn what was going on. Lowest I’ve ever seen it idle.

Well I was going to go ahead and set the timing right but apparently my timing light only had one use left in it. It won’t do jack nothin tonight. But the truck idles around 650 now and starts with a bump of the key :D although it’s a little rich you can hear it occasionally pop more often and it sounds like it bubbles down the exhaust tube kinda I dunno how to explain it you can hear it coming before it shoots out the exhaust tip. It took forever to get to temperature, and the thermostat was still lagging behind tho.
