Yes, Pretty sure that is a Gov Lok pictured here. The Trac Lok system uses springs up against side plates horizontally. The Gov Lok looks alot like Eaton MLocker and very well might be the retail version of the OEM Gov Lok.

Thanks for the pics and info HotRod and Greybeard

I've been meaning to take the diff cover off my 14bolt FF to see what it looks like in there but I haven't had the time. I do believe there's a way to count the splines to figure out what gearing it has? I've googled it I just don't remember the procedure.

Another question about lockers

How tough is it to install a new locker, like a Detroit or Yukon etc.....

Very loaded question. I could say fairly easy, but no knowing your mechanical ability, then it might not be. On a Full Float, you do have to pull the carrier and split it to install a locker. Some guys will do it by counting turns and marking the lock hole and just be sure it goes back together exactly like it came apart.

Some guys will use the opportunity to reset up their ring and pinion gear which compensates for any wear on the gears. If you're not comfy setting gear lash, then I wouldn't do this method.

One more question on the subject. If a person were to install upgraded axle shafts like a yukon set, chrome moly or such, I'm just assuming that the same goes that I would need to replace the ring gear and pinion? I've looked into buying after market axles but they're crazy expensive! I do plan on wheeeling this truck weekend warrior style so I don't want it breaking all the time. I know things are gonna break but I wanna be the one pulling people outta the mud not visa versa!!!!

So I see mention of the full floaters up to 98, but what about something newer. I had a full floater in my 01 2500HD with 4.10s, disc brakes, and a G80 that performed flawless on and off road. I would assume tha the spring perches and shock mounts would need to be relocated and u-joint replaced to make it work? I can get a full rearend for a couple hundred $$ and it would take care of diff upgrade, disc upgrade, and locker for cheap.

Yep, as you mentioned, move the spring perchs and shock brackets and it should work. Not sure on the HD, but the width might be a hair narrower is all. Just means more room for more tire but your front to rear tire width might be a bit different. I doubt it would even be noticeable by eye. The K series are off anyway since the front wheels stick out further.

I know I have seen a post on ring gear serial numbers but I can't seem to find it.
Trying to find out what gear ratio is in the semi float axle I am going to sell.
Number on the ring gear is 1 GM 14012786 11 41 3 84

For those who are not aware. Very easy to tell the difference in a 14 Bolt Full Float and a 14 Bolt Semi Float.

Full Float has the axle hub sticking out of the drum or wheel.
Full Float is a 10.5 inch Ring Gear and doesn't require C clips.

Semi Float DOES NOT have the hub sticking out of the drum or wheel.
Semi Float is a 9.5 inch Ring Gear and uses C clips in the carrier to retain the axles.

Here is a photo of the rear covers to help you ID the different 14 bolts. Very easy to tell the difference.

This is what G80 Locking Diff Gov Lok Carrier looks like in a 14b FF.
