14 bolt FF hub seal orientation

I’m in the process of installing new brake shoes, drums and hardware and inner and outer wheel bearings and seals in my 84 K30.

The rear axle is a 14 bolt full floater. I took pictures during disassembly but am now second guessing whether I may have installed the passenger side seal backwards.

Is this the side of the seal that should face inward (toward the differential) when the hub is mounted on the axle?

I can see the spring from this vantage point. The black rubber seal (which is currently closest to the bearings) is on the far side (toward the ground.)

I haven’t driven my truck since performing the work.

The lip with the garter spring should face towards the oil in the hub. That's the one that does the oil containment. The other, unsprung lip is to prevent contaminants from getting into the seal itself.

Looking at your picture I believe that side faces into the hub, away from the differential.

You should not see the "spring" when installed on the hub.

Thank you for responding, you saved my new brake shoes. I already purchased a new seal and axle flange gasket to correct my error.
