Why are alternator/power steering brackets so predominant in the aftermarket? Is it for relocation of upper radiator hose, looks, clearance issues or a bigger amp alternator? Seems to me the one that came with my pullout will work just fine, but I wanna be heads up if there's something that can blindside me.

Just to have different options. Everybody's setup is a little different, plus alternator being up high is kinda ugly to alot of people. Superchargers change the front runner needs, hoses, looks, there's any myriad of reasons

are you asking about gen iii LS (you said '04) or sbc?
The reason for the LS brackets is likely because 1) The AC compressor in the bottom left of this photo, thats a very hard to clear spot in a lot of classic vehicles.
Also, the alternator/powersteering sometimes are better/easier if on the opposite sides.
And not all gen iii LS engines have this layouts, the ones from the cars would have different placements which would need to rearrange depending on the situation.
