Engine Block Heater for SBC 350

Good battery means adequate amperage to crank fast enough in a cold environment. Shouldn't be using heavy grade oil 10-30 or 10-40 ok, no 20-50. To remove a freeze plug, use a blunt punch of some kind or even a long 1/2" extension. Hit it towards the outside edge. It may twist in the hole...

Engine Block Heater for SBC 350

Most reliable and easiest to install are soft plug heaters. Directions will instruct which one to install it in. Remember GM installed them from the factory. I live in Spokane, we get comparable weather. Actually any maintained vehicle with a good battery should start decent in 0 degree...

Brought home my first square body. 1980 Silverado C10. Utah

Am sure the shows will continue somewhere else. Broadcast media is dying a slow death. 10 years from now may not be any left. I am on cable basically because most of what I watched used to be in one place. Now its horribly expensive with less content. That is unless you like watching drug...

    Little help please

If that's all you have try to buy a donor truck to rob parts from. Buying individual items will get expensive real quick.

Only suggested from top because some do not have long enough extensions for the 2 top bolts.

    Ac liquid condenser line

Just looked at my K20 I purchased same line you need last year. They had the right one then but not now. Old one I replaced was leaking at the evaporator and still does with the new line. So the line is probably ok. Might have the old one somewhere if you run out of options.

    Carb sputter uphill

Fuel pressure, volume and filters. New fuel pump quality is horrible. If everything checks out [unknown what carb] possible metering rod stuck. Bouncing fuel gauge is likely caused by the gauge itself. Shouldn't be an issue provided there is enough fuel in the tank.

    Carb gasket comparison question!

Part consolidation is a thing. Having extra holes to nowhere won't affect anything. It's only a problem when openings are sealed by the gasket. Have seen this on nearly every carb I overhauled. It's fine, use it as long as no holes are covered.

gas tank wont fill all the way

And then there are those new style self-sealing fuel cans. What overpaid engineer came up with those? Hopefully some of this idiocy will be curbed soon.

    California emissions removal help

FYI even if you live in a state where vehicles aren't tested removing any emissions device is illegal. There are many threads here asking how to fix fuel smells and drivability problems after emission parts were yanked off. On a 78 most of them have no effect on performance.

    Engine stumbling/stalling in drive

timing is set with vacuum hose disconnected, if rotor does not spring back that advance is stuck and needs repair

    Engine stumbling/stalling in drive

Seems a bit more of a spread than is usual. Try adjusting the idle mix. Turn screws either in or out until highest RPM achieved then in 1/4 turn.

    Engine stumbling/stalling in drive

Of course, vacuum leaks can be sudden as well as restricted carb circuits. Need to check both. Although I doubt it's the problem check fuel pressure and volume just to eliminate it. Idle vacuum steady?

Starter drag when engine is warm

Shouldn't have to modify the vehicle. If everything checks out, good battery with high enough amperage, clean and tight battery cables [no bolt on ends], all grounds intact and clean, correct timing, suspect a starter. Checking the starter off the vehicle it's not accurate. If that's how it...

    TH350 Removal

6 bolts, 2 or more can be accessed from top with distributor out and other items removed like cruise if equipped. Distributor will usually hit the firewall anyway when the engine sags.

never jerk a stuck truck with a chain

After being in towing I have seen lots of broken chains and cables. Be extremely careful when under a load. Need to use properly sized equipment with good attachment points and stay in a safe area. If a person doesn't understand that you have no business pulling anything. 3/8 cable normally...

    Engine lag

Might try disabling spark then cranking over. A cylinder not filling or low compression, starter will increase speed and be uneven on a bad cylinder. I used it many times diagnosing a misfire. Suggested what direction to proceed with diagnosis. If available hook up a vacuum gauge.

    Tire size confusion.

We had several C and K 30's-year range was 74-85. We did run 235's on a couple trucks but with either low air pressure or high weight sidewalls would rub. This is a totally bad thing in DOT's mind. We never got red flagged [parked], but that was a distinct possibility. State Patrol was a little...
