im saying to investigate alignment and steering system because he has "all new parts all around"
and his trucks squirming is present without a trailer
Anyone whos had a power steering pump stuck at full assist (or behaving intermittently/inconsistently) and a bit of misalignment or wear or...
could also be more than a half degree away from eachother (sides), but id think that would be more a tracks to one side than squirm. large caster will also wear the edges of the tire more in turns but its amazing what a little bit of caster does for a vehicle that doesnt have much
if the...
For another related path of diagnosis , I was going to see if drag behind him affects his squirm , it would help isolate alignment/body roll/steering components/power steering system depending on what it did ;)
go read my previous posts, still waiting on photos of your steering linkages/geometry and question about alignment...
I also brought up power steering related things that could be in play here too
what kind of tires is the camper using?
And an idea i just had
While pulling it, manually apply the trailer brakes just a bit , does this improve or not change the issue?
thats not a 70s vin fragment
nor a VIN from a 80s
but does your frame horns resemble the 80s or 70s? If its 80s, it may be the original frame. salvage title doesnt mean its the wrong frame, body would be more likely the changed part
arr you measuring the trailer and truck on this scale? thats.. .a heavy trailer for such light payload
If it is, subtract your trucks weight (4-5,000 pounds id take it?)
Still heavy but changes things considerably
I think he meant his needle is just like this
You can still read it you just need to have a straight on view and know its pointing that way lol
im so proud of you, can I see?
maybe they are expecting him to meet the higher standard the federal government has, which doesnt say automatically but it would infer that use of the reverse gear is the action which illuminates it , while its on
the not energized while moving forward would indicate that being in neutral or...
The second pic is the two tires that were in the rear, so they are the front ones now, they have morre wear but are relatively close to that (my bad the now fronts have over inflation wear, putting them up front at the same psi the tire tread is flat across lol)
Tread pull meaning down the road? actually goes pretty straight. the tires are old (16 and 17 for year)
And the front tires are above minimum tread but below good traction
The rear have a lot of life (10-15k if i was really trying to squeeze the life from them)
my step dad DID NOT rotate or...
I think my steering links or ball joints are starting to get unhappy , because if i have less than 50 psi in my front tires its heavy to steer
Or my pump is getting tired(original, just hit 180k, hydroboost too) especially with foot on the brake. quick shot of grease helps them moderately but...
go through and read what me and others have said, and respond to the clarifying questions
But knowing you have the "XL" which is the high end of the P-metric tires load wise I believe, thats a good sign for them tires
OOO. So I probably have too much pressure in my 2005 gmt800 tires? I Think with the warming up they are probably 55psi
BUt 48-53 when it was cooler , while i have at max 300 pounds in the bed/cab and no spare tire
We talking the sidewall spec? Isnt that a little above the safety limit...
Hmm, I must be thinking of something else then. Thanks for correcting that.
Maybe im thinking about how large diameter low profile tires are expensive, and then when they are rated for load range E they cost even more, and those are what newer vehicles are coming with and people want to put on...
how much does it weigh?and what kind of front suspension setup is that?
I have what are essentially the highest rated non LT tires on my f150 in the back, and cheapo walmart P tires on the front
THe thing is all over the road, but what you say may influence me to get a load range C LT tire...
Id also like to see your steering geometry , and what box did you use? quick ratio (as in, less turns to full lock?) Will amplify the issue yes
not that you wouldnt have it with a stock box ratio, but it could be a factor. And what kind of shocks do you use?
If you want to keep your pirellis...
Also, get your caster angle measured or show us what your alignment (last one you had)
You have modified the height of your truck. Increasing caster , but it must be even side to side, will improve squirm and returnability , making it more confident handling
Also, having a power steering pump...
Lower profile tires are easier to make E rated because the sidewalls are shorter , thats much less that needs stiffening. What size is the tire (the P-metric numbering (P225/65/16, for example)
Depending on how your trailer axles are setup and how you load it, those tires are either under-spec...
to the plastic portion just pops in the bracket? Depending on how i want to do things, I might even use another piece as an L bracket to extend this further down, so you could leave it as is
