    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

I’m of the same mind, certainly can do it under the vehicle, with or without a lift, but having it out is just my personal preference. Now, doing this kind of work isn’t what keeps the lights on for me, so trying to make time and $$ doing the work, I can see why doing it under the vehicle is...

In my opinion the best way is to have the axle on a stand or fixtured on a bench. That way one can rotate the pinion facing down and gravity assists in holding things, then you can drop the carrier in and not drop an AAM 11.5 carrier and ring gear and have it roll down your arms and legs lol...

What have you done to your square lately??

The LMC kit is just roofing/tar paper. Fuel tank shouldn't be getting crazy hot to begin with.

What is this 2 prong Plug above the oil filter?

Wow. I really botched that up. Let’s try again KOEO Key On, Engine Off

What is this 2 prong Plug above the oil filter?

That would be for an electric choke setup from a later vehicle. With no oil pressure no voltage to the choke coil, with oil pressure it lets voltage to the choke coil and lets it heat up and open the choke. That way if you are KEOF (key on, engine off) it’s not wasting battery heating the choke.

    On my 4th starter

Be sure to use the proper starter bolts too, that have knurling after the threads. If you go to a later style “mini” starter, at least the one I put on my 76, needed bolts with a 10mm shank diameter and 3/8 threads, not 3/8 shank diameter with 3/8 threads like the original bolts.

Exhaust pipe kits from @mazon/ eBay

I’ve not used them myself, but I believe @Catbox had gotten some similar on close out from Eastwood(?), 3” diameter kits I think.

How much are these parts worth?

I sold the whole front frame section (cut I front of front cab mounts, complete minus steering box) from an 85 C10 about 5 years ago for $150. Sold it to some guys that were going to put the setup under a 60s Chevy pickup, as it’s a nearly bolt in upgrade to give 5 lug and disc brakes. If I...

NEW Brothers Dash Bezels - CHEAP

Non ac does not have any dash vents, above the hvac controls on a non a/c truck is a little cubby, to the lower left of the bezel also lacks a hole for an vent, unlike on an A/C truck that has vents in both places.

Thank you, I’m a machinist/toolmaker by trade, the automotive stuff is just a hobby.

    Harbor Freight Table and carts

I had picked one up recently as well. Already has been serving is intended purpose, being a crash cart trying to keep stuff from piling on the lift runways and such. Then wheel back to the toolbox(es) Really solid value.

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Those specific photos were with the backlash corrected with each change. When making the initial change I left the shims the same for the carrier to see where it was, then corrected. On the 14b SF it uses a screw type adjuster on the driver's side, so only dealing with shims on one side of the...

Here is the 14b SF for reference- Very distinct movements. Motive gear set, 3.73 if that is any factor. It’s done about 1000 miles so far including dyno runs, 330hp to the tires iirc. No noise. With your two mile test I do not believe any appreciable wear has taken place. People that run a...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

I wonder if you ran into a “false positive” sort of situation. Your early/initial setup(s) did not appear to be wildly off, visually at least. Looking back at my notes from the 14b sf I did, started at .02, it was decent, went to .03 was clearly deep, went to .025 was still clearly deep...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thank you, it manages to hide most of the ugly pretty well. Really the main problem is the front cab mounts are basically completely gone, passenger side is barely intact and the drivers side is gone to the point the body mount bolt is pushing on the floor. Which it had these issues back when...

Your carrier preload should be ok based on the increase in rotational drag. I’m at a loss too on this. I’m hesitant to say the noise is from the gears themselves (not that the gears are not the source of the noise, rather that even with a textbook perfect setup they would still make the noise)...

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

@Matt69olds sounds like an opportunity to put up a 40 foot tower... My grandfathers setup. I ended up with all his CB stuff after he passed (except for the tower). I've got his Ranger 2995dx base station setup in my room but just a dipole in the attic.

Replacement Panels - All Created Equal - Yes or No?

AMD (Auto Metal Direct) is going to be the best typically. They have put a significant investment into making parts for these trucks that are a big step above the old crash parts that have been available. With that said I done most of the rust repair on the 79 before AMD was offering what they...
