Quadrajet from hell will not give me peace

Ok, well i was able to tear the carb apart last night and i guess it was a user error. the bushings I installed for the secondaries were way too tight. I was able to drill them out enough to where the shaft was able to move freely without any play and with the spring installed, the blades could...

Quadrajet from hell will not give me peace

not sure about seating throttle plates in bores. fast idle cam is down, no vac leaks, gaskets matched the old ones I took out. I don't think the shaft has a twist in it. it went in the same way it came out

Quadrajet from hell will not give me peace

So I recently rebuilt my q jet, mostly to do throttle shaft bushings, but also just to give myself peace of mind that everything was actually done right when I rebuilt it the first time. Well now it's worse, and I'm not ruling out rebuilder error on my part, I just don't even know what's going...

    Quadrajet question

I'll try that. No EGR, but it does have the charcoal cannister and the PCV valve does rattle so that may be my culprit

    Power steering pump recommendation

Not entirely sure, it looks like it's coming from the back of the pump body

    Power steering pump recommendation

Any recommendations on a quality PS pump for a 454 truck with hydroboost brakes? My current one just started leaking and its only 3-4 months old (ordered from rockauto). This is the second leaking PS pump I've had since I bought the truck and I've verified its coming from the pump body and not...

    Quadrajet question

Vacuum advance canister is brand new. still the same issues when I disconnect vac advance, just at a lower idle rpm due to timing retardation. I think it may be throttle bushings though, I'll going to check when I get home. I already ordered a "new" quadrajet from SMI for peace of mind plus I...

    Quadrajet question

Its the stock fuel pump driven off the cam, using regular 87 octane pump gas. Not sure about volume or pressure. I don't think it's the original carb. The number on the side is 17080512 which tells me its from a 1980 my truck and mine's an 85. I don't think its running out of fuel though...

    Quadrajet question

I just want to make sure my logic is sound here and I don't waste my time doing something that won't solve my problem. I have a mostly stock 454 (stock internals, long tube headers, carb spacer) and I have an AFR gauge hooked up. I've been trying to dial in my carb and it's consistently...

    1985 K30 3+3

Selling my k30 3+3. Its a great truck and I've had a great time driving it with much help from people on this forum helping me figure out tuning and whatnot. I've been daily driving it for the last few months to work and back and it's had zero hiccups. Having to sell now because family/life...

    References for LS Swap Wiring

Thanks for the advice, the Denali had a messed up 6L80. Owner didn't know much about it, but I'm glad I dodged a bullet there. Appreciate the references guys

    References for LS Swap Wiring

Can anyone point me in a good direction as far as wiring is concerned? I'm looking at picking up a Yukon Denali (6.2/6L80e, but I'm sure it will be similar for other combos) and I want to reuse the engine and trans for my swap, and from what I understand, as long as I retain the factory PCM/TCM...

    Quadrajet gurus, help me out

I'm dialing in my truck (stock 454, no egr/emissions, quadrajet #17080812, ~36 degrees total timing w/ vac advance). mixture screws are about 2-1/2 turns from bottom and APT screw is about 3 turns from bottom. I'm running a vac gauge in the cab as well as an AEM afr gauge. For afr, I can get it...

    454 kickback/dieseling after shutdown?

I think timing was off. Ended up replacing the balancer and got an afr gauge installed to verify how lean/rich I'm running. it seems to mostly have gone away. I still need to mess with the timing a bit but i think those two things solved my problem

    454 kickback/dieseling after shutdown?

Also it will still diesel/backfire out of the intake when i shut it off in gear

    454 kickback/dieseling after shutdown?

I've changed the carb gasket, adjusted fuel, timing, reconnected the anti-dieseling solenoid and still no solution. plus i cant get this thing to run down the block, much less drive down the road. I'm, about to toss this quad in the trash and go buy something else. The crazy thing is, I can get...

    454 kickback/dieseling after shutdown?

Gotcha. 1985, no smog pumps or egr. Should be no carbon buildup as I just did heads and cleaned ports/valves before reassembly. Maybe I have it too lean (8* before TDC and only 2 turns out on idle mixture screws) so I might try advancing the timing & re-connecting/re-setting the anti-dieseling...

    454 kickback/dieseling after shutdown?

its getting significantly worse. did it for about 30 seconds after shutdown today and blew a huge plume of vapor out the intake. I have a vid and I'll try and upload later I've been reading around and found some info about the anti-dieseling solenoid on my q jet. i took mine off recently...

Nope That doesn't actually solve the problem though

    454 kickback/dieseling after shutdown?

So, I just started having this issue today. Engine is a 454 (stock internals/stock q jet) set at 8* BTDC @ idle (~800 rpm). Sitting at ~19 inHg at idle, mixture screws are about 2 turns out from bottom. The engine only does this after running for a couple minutes (I drive it around the block to...

    Emblem Restoration

I've got a grille emblem and a fender emblem that have the studs sheared off. I'm a decent welder so I was wondering if there were new studs I could find and weld to the old emblems to reuse them? I haven't found anything online about it.
