Do I restore my AC or?

You do not need to change compressor or condenser to convert to R134a. You do need to drain all the oil and replace it. Make sure to measure what you take out of each component so you can put back equal amount of R134a compatible oil. You do need to install adapters for the service ports. If...

Do I restore my AC or?

The whole regulation thing is silly. If you are trying to prevent it from hitting the atmosphere then stop selling 1 lb. cans at Walmart. As @Ricko1966 said the problem is not the pros, it is the backyard idiots who keep recharging a leaking system. Well them and the less the scrupulous repair...

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

There is a gear on the output shaft of the transmission called the drive gear. The other gear is called the driven gear. The driven gear is the one the cable fits into. A couple of things. Jack it up, disconnect speedo cable at the gearbox put into gear and see if the driven gear even spins...

Do I restore my AC or?

The stuff on Amazon is R12a which is marketed as a drop in 100% compatible replacement refrigerant. The Canadians use this regularly. I have zero experience with it. If you are going through the trouble of replacing everything, why not just convert to R134a and be done with it. R134a is...

    A/C REBUILD w/R-12

You will not notice a difference in performance using R12 or R134a. These systems were so oversized to begin with. Don't overthink it. I have converted hundreds on systems over the years. Just evacuate the system, drain as much oil as possible and add R134a compatible oil. In your case just buy...

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

Don't forget the leaf springs are what keep the axle in position. If you have a broken center pin, or worn bushings at either end of your front springs the axle can move around. Also make sure the rear is good. If the rear is moving on you it can cause an issue too.

whats every body using.. looking for a new stereo head unit

Thanks for posting that picture. I was looking at them or Retro Sound. If there is no option to dim that display then I will find something else. @totallyhucked Not sure which model radio you have but see the instructions, page 11, for Custom Autosound radio. It shows there are 7 brightness...

    Body repair panels

Thanks for clarifying. I did buy some other smaller sheet metal stuff and what I got from AMD fit with minimal tweaking. As was stated above, OEM replacement was not perfect either. There was even difference left to right on original stuff. My '87 has been in my family since '88 and the body guy...

    I’m pretty pissed!!

To each his own. I just don't get it. I am not saying others shouldn't. Vehicles are personal and you should be able to modify them how you like. Within reason, of course.

    Body repair panels

I am restoring my GMC and can tell you that used is way better than repro. The body shop also concurs. I needed rockers, cab corners, one door and one fender. Found used fender, NOS door and one NOS rocker. I bought one repro rocker and it was slightly different but worked. I think LMC...

    I’m pretty pissed!!

I don't get the whole lift kit and giant tires thing. I don't want to have to climb a ladder to get in my vehicle or do overhead presses to put anything in the cargo area.

Removing AC unit - Is there a big hole to fill?

R134a is a drop in replacement for R12. Change o-rings and oil, charge it with 10% less and it will work fine. You can change the orifice tube and it will be even better. I have done hundreds of cars like this when I had my own shop in the 90s.

Removing AC unit - Is there a big hole to fill?

Some parts stores loan out tools. You should check with them. Then you can vacuum test your system. Understand that when you pull a vacuum on the A/C system it is not to suck out dirt. It is to boil off any moisture in the system before recharging.

Removing AC unit - Is there a big hole to fill?

R12 is no longer sold here but R134a is a drop in replacement. Google says you can still buy R134a in Canada but you need a license. Technically you need one too in the USA unless you buy the small cans. Looks like R12a is available in Canada over the counter. The worst case is you replace...

You will need to remove the lock plate and get the turn signal switch out of the way.

    My other special vehicle

@Blazerlady Sorry to hear about your sister. It is awesome you are honoring her by keeping the GTO in good condition. People are telling me what I should do with my '87 GMC V3500. My dad bought it in '88 and it has been in the family since. Dad passed 3 years ago and I am restoring the truck...

    I’m pretty pissed!!

That is how I feel about the spring place I used. The money is gone and I guess I could dispute with my CC company but it is not worth it. I was able to use half of the shackle. I wonder if the sleeves I have left over would work for you.

    I’m pretty pissed!!

Glad to hear you got it sorted. Did the suspension place you got the bushings from, not offer sleeves to purchase? I feel your frustration. I bought leaf springs locally for the front of my truck. Spring shop said he could not get me the shackles as their supplier had them on back order. Called...

Issue resolved - New parts on the way -- Key will not insert into the ignition switch

Your steering wheel lock has nothing to do with the key being inserted. That is the ignition lock cylinder, the ignition switch is at the base of the column. Are you sure you are trying the correct key? These old girls had the square key for the ignition and a round one for the doors. Spray...
