Quick question on front rotors / wheel bearings

And that is correct. You never want to loosen the nut on a tie rod or ball joint, tighten only to the next available slot. On wheel bearings, once the proper setting is achieved, only loosen to the next adjuster slot, to not risk the adjustment to getting too tight and having a bearing burn out...

Quick question on front rotors / wheel bearings

I burned a bearing, ONCE. Never did that again, a old timer taught Me after I told him what had happened. Never another burnt bearing since.

Quick question on front rotors / wheel bearings

Oh yeah, dont forget to put a nice smear of grease onto the seal. Also, if that seal begins to leak, any excess grease can be forced out and make a mess of brake shoes and hardware contained within the drum area.

Quick question on front rotors / wheel bearings

Professionally doing this types of work for over 30 years, for the DOT. Pack them bearings until grease pushes out the opposite side from which You are packing the grease into. Smear a light coating into the hub and onto the inner races. Just enough to prevent hubs from rusting. Smear the...

Machine gun noise when accelerate then a backfire occasionally

Is the AIR injection smog system still hooked up. If the check valves in that system got messed up they would backfire on decel, sound like a cannon went off.

    NP205 same for sm465 and th400???

All I know is that the front gear and spline coupler to attach a NP205 to a TH400 is a mighty expensive item if You go looking to buy them.

    I-Talian Tune UP

Seafoam is okay. Like You did, let the SF flood out the enjun and let it die. Then the secret, let it soak for a half an hour or fifteen minutes, fire it up and run the rest of the can through. Carbon stuck under the valves gets soaked and blowed away. Something an instructor at a emissions...

    3 wire o2 sensor

Oh yeah, the O2 sensor is a three wire and the carb I got away from was a one barrel Zenith. I got the dual SU setup from an older MG that I parted out.

    3 wire o2 sensor

I have a heated O2 sensor on my 1978 MG-B, converted to two SU carbs from a single barrel whatever it was carb. I wanted to be able to monitor the air/fuel ratio without having to pull over every ten miles and pulling plugs. The sensor is hooked to a gauge in the cabin. Last trip out, right...

    6.2l K5 Hunter Package

the 6.2 diesel was not built on a gas engine platform. The 6.2 was designed for GM in the detroit diesel plant and was a diesel engine from its very beginnings. If You want a unit that will get 20 MPG then fix this unit and run it. Nice find, I sure would not scrap it out. Welcome to the forum.

    6.2 Detroit into a 84 gasser

Get a fluid dampener for the front of the crankshaft. That will help avoid busting a crank shaft.

    Lawn Tractor Porn for Dave!

I have a old early 70s JD round fender mower/tractor. Did a mechanical restoration on it several years ago. Built a new to color code wiring harness for it and the only starter/generator units I could find was chinesium so I took what numbers I could find from the old components, scrounged ebay...

    6.2 running poorly

Prestone, engine coolant has changed formula over the last ten or twenty years. Unless the coolant has been in the engine for a very long time, it will not have that tell tale sweet smell to it. The coolant had a sweet taste to it that animals just loved. They would lap that stuff up until there...

    New "Old" Daily - 8.1L

Nice looking unit. I like that radio player thing. Especially the fact that if it is an android unit it can run the Torque Pro app; all thats needed is the ALDL adapter then You can set up a dashboard that will read any sensors that You set it up for. Live constant information feed.

    Wood heater/stove. What y'all think?

One time my ex BIL had a character installing a wood/coal stove in the BILs house. Now this was an old stove and it had a base with legs on it, legs about 10 to 12" long. I arrived at his house in time to watch them set the stove down on this sheet of asbestos backed tin fire proofing stuff. I...

    Wood heater/stove. What y'all think?

Check fire codes for Your area. IIRC, in a garage or flammable situation, the height from the floor to the bottom of the ash pan, or stove, is suppose to be 16 inches. Better check the codes for Your area though.

What ate my front u joints? Dana 44

Reading all these posts about grease. Something else that might be amiss. When You installed the new u-joints and got them all pressed into the shaft and retainers installed. did You center them in the shafts ? More U-Joints gets destroyed because people dont know about centering them.
