    I appreciate this but, it needs a new solenoid because it works fine after you give it a whack. I'd rather just have rebuild the one I pulled because I know it fits. It's been 3 now and I'm done. Lol

    All the parts houses give me the staggered pattern one. Believe me I told them I wish I could get one that looks exactly like the one I pulled off. So I'm just going to have the rebuild it and I know it'll fit.

    Put the new starter on the 84 today and it doesn't mesh with the flywheel and just spins. So I'm gonna have str rebuild the old one. I'm tired of fcking with these stupid starters that don't fit right. Just my luck too!!

    I've never been a big sticker guy. Especially on my vehicles. But, I might be changing a bit. Here's some on my squares. I didn't put the ones on the 84 just the 82.

    I think they fit several different years. I had the metal two hump one on the 82 and put a Plastic black rectangle one on with no issues.

    What new tools have you got lately?

    When I went to tsc to get a cone for the dog I stopped and looked at the compressors. The 60 gal Dewalt was only 750 bucks. I thought it was closer to 1,000. The 26 gal Dewalt was 500. So the 60 it'll be. The other brand was a little bigger but 1,400 for it. Too steep for me.

    Got the starter wired up. Was trying to bolt it up and was having trouble getting it back on. So I took a break because I was getting mad and didn't want to break something. Lol Well it decided to pour down rain. So that was it for yesterday. Really needed the rain so wasn't to mad about it...

    You're right about the bolt holes being there for both. I went and got another long bolt and will see what happens. Hope it works because O'Reilly gave me the wrong one.

    Thanks for this! I was thinking of having someone rebuild it if I can't get the right one from the parts houses. We used to have a shop that rebuilt starters and alternators. Don't know if they are still there.

    How do I tell which flywheel I have? I'm guessing it's the stock one. I'm sure if I tell them I need the 153 tooth flywheel one, that will confuse them. Lol

    Another snag in the starter replacement. I know generally the same starter fits a bbc and the sbc. Not this one though. The bolts do t line up the same. The starter on the 82 454 is the one pulled from the previous 305 that was on it. The 84 305 is totally different. I noticed that one bolt was...

    Good information in here. I really need to do this to my 82. A shop quoted me 3k to do it. That sounds a bit high to me. If I had a good one with really good instructions (because I'm not the best with this)I'd give it a shot. Painless are like 800 bucks from what I've seen.

    Got it off but, it's so hot I'm gonna take a break till later to put the new one on. I may have to put bigger eye loops on since the bolts on the new one are slightly bigger. The wires aren't as long as the 82 ones. My luck. Lol
