Got board today and decided I needed a place for a beverage and my wallet. This is what I came up with.

35 inch tire with 3.73 gear

That’s all great info. Think I will stick with what I have for now, run it till spring and see what the real mph and drive ability really is. Only have about 1000 miles on it at the moment and still needs exhaust and AC. Thanks for the input.

35 inch tire with 3.73 gear

I am currently running a 5.3 with an NV 4500 OD trans into a 4.56 gear on 35 inch tries. In OD at 2k rpm my mph is 58. I am considering a gear swap to 3.73. Anyone running anything similar? My calculations say that at 2k rpm with the 3.73 my mph would close to 70.

Change to the change. The degree wedge/shim didn’t work as well as I first thought. On the pinion/axle side in swapped the 6 degree wedge for a 4 degree wedge making the pinion angle 5 degrees. On the transfer case side I lowered the cross member an additional 3/4 in an inch making the yoke...

6 degree shims installed. They seem to have done the trick. I only run the truck for about 10 miles, but everything seems much smother. The operating angles (10ish degrees) are still a bit high, but should work. I am told that I will ware out u joints quicker. Will put some miles on it...

With the new drive shaft installed the vibe has gotten much better. Still a bit there at 60+. Just ordered a Warrior 6 degree steel shim kit, a bit pricey, but I did not want to take a chance with aluminum shims. Especially with that much of degree. This should take are of the drive line vibe.

Sm465 locked up in granny gear

I agree the parking brake can be untrust worthy. Right or wrong, I have always put my manual transmissions in reverse when parking.

New drive shaft. The old one was in bad shape. New one is the correct length and diameter. Last thing I need to address is the pinion angle. 4 degrees at Transfercase 9.5 at pinion. Need 6 degree shim.

The 465 bell housing will not work. I ordered mine from High Impact PN 712576. It’s made by Advance Adapters. You can also use the GM bell housing that used with the NV4500 in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Don’t know the PN.

    NV4500 into a 454/465/205 truck?

I just did a nv4500 swap into my 77, replacing the 465. You need a nv4500 bell housing, a dodge 4500 will have different input and out shafts compared to the GM. If you have not already, check Advance Adapters and high impact. Oh, I am running a 2003 5.3, NV4500 and the NP205 from my 77.

    77 K10 LS Swap

Spoke with a drive shaft shop in Texarkana today. Described the remaining vide I have along with some details of the looseness/slack I am seeing in the splined slip joint. They claim that is my problem. I hope to have time soon to run the rear drive shaft to them and have it checked out. A...

    77 K10 LS Swap

Accomplished a couple things this weekend. I found out what part of my 50 mph vide was. Rear pinion pretension was loose. A quarter turn on the pinion nut worked wonders. Still need to have drive shaft checked out. I think the splined slip joint is worn out. Then I removed two leaf springs...

    77 K10 LS Swap

I have put about 500 miles on the 77 over the last few weeks. Average fuel mileage is 15.5 mpg. Not to shabby. Over that 500 mile run I did notice a slight vibration at 50 mph. I pulled the rear drive shaft and noticed that the u-joints were worn. The needle bearings were wareing grooves into...

    77 K10 LS Swap

Tires were mounted and balanced Wednesday. Drives and rides a lot better than it did with 12 year old tires it had on it. Hopefully I have time to get it cleaned up for a local car show tomorrow. Not that the truck itself is anything to look at, but I just want to show the engine swap.

    77 K10 LS Swap

Called my local tire dealer yesterday and tried to get a set of 35x12.5x15 BFG KO2s for the 77. They said it take two weeks to get them in. Not cool. So I decided to try Tire Rack. I called them yesterday at lunch time. They had them in stock and said they could have them delivered today...

Yes, Speed Engineering, part # 25-1025. I was concerned about the headers clearing the mechanical clutch leakage. These headers cleared just fine. The only fitment issue was an ear on the advanced adaptors bell housing, a little trimming fixed that. Over all very pleased with the headers.

Swapped out the leaky water pump today. Also found that the idler pulley has bad bearing. So need to pick up one of those and may as well get a new thermostat while I am at it.

    77 K10 LS Swap

Actually, I am running a NV4500 (OD) on 35 inch tires with 4.56 gears. Once I get a new set of tires at the end of the month, I will be able to get it out run it at speed and see what my phone speed app says I am doing. For some reason my speedometer is way off, not sure why. The speed gear...

The engine is stock. Only significant mods would be exhaust and a lot of gear (4:56). 2k rpm is 60ish mph.

Right now I am running with stock tune from the donor vehicle. Seems to be running ok. But I am wondering how long I can go before I should get it tuned.
