Older flat tappet cam engines, what oil do you use?

I had this same question with my old engine as well. I just got it started after sitting for over 20 years last year. I was not aware that the formula for oil had changed. I ran the regular oil for one change. After learning about the ZDDP, I immediately drained the oil and changed it. I added a...

Found a mud truck for my brother

Those 12 bolts can take a lot more abuse than what you realize. I know mine did. I was launching my lifted truck on the street pretty regularly. I was running a 6 inch lift with Q radial Buckshot tires which are 35 1/2 inches tall. I drag raced All the time on the street here locally years...

    Replaceable panels?

I agree with you. I was thinking that it was no big deal to hose that section out. But I could see it being a pain if you were out in the mud for awhile and the mud was packed in there.

    1/2 front axle seals

I just replaced a set on my Dana 44 front axle. You have to pull the carrier to do it. I used a large socket on a very long extension to drive the old seals out. To put them in I used one of two ways. I either used the same socket and extension to drive then in. They will stop at the lip inside...

    Replaceable panels?

I had a body guy tell me that he always cut the inner rocker off after the outer panel was installed. He said that it always rusts there because water and dirt would lay there. He said that way you could hose any mud off and not worry about rust forming there. BTW- Don't kill the messenger I am...

    On board water?

I saw a video of a mud truck where the guy had a small water sprayer tank mounted. It was plumbed as the reservoir for his windshield washer pump. It was a pretty slick set up. He used a sprayer that you could mount to the back of a four wheeler. It already had a pump mounted to the tank IIRC.

Found a mud truck for my brother

Rumble, that is a pre 79 truck that probably has the same front end your truck has. It should have a Dana 44 under it. The front end from the backing plate out can be changed out to 8 lug. Then just find a 14 bolt rear with same gear ratio. Since it has full time front end it has the chain...

    Sm465 question

If you have a 400 don't forget to buy a 400 standard flywheel. A 350 one will not work since the 400 is externally balanced. I figured that you know this but just in case you didn't.

    Bent Frame

I think finding a 1 ton frame is going to be a little tough up there. Is the Zone lift an all spring lift? If you use the one ton rear suspension and add blocks it will be a pretty stiff ride.

    Cowl hood

I always liked the L88 hood on a low rider. BTW-Nice looking square 74propu. I like the tilt forward hood and the suicide doors. Nice. You don't see that everyday. Good job.

Here is an old flashback about the brush guard. I was telling my son that back in the day guys would buy the brush guards that had to be bolted together. They would assemble one end and the pour sand or concrete down in the cross tubes to beef them up. Anyone else remember hearing about someone...
