    496 Build

I'd run a stock HEI distributor too. You could probably find one thats been rebuilt and blueprinted much cheaper than the MSD unit. Intake manifold I'm not sure. I can't decide whether to run an air gap performer rpm or just a performer for my own build. My gut tells me to run the air gap...

    496 Build

I would go a bit bigger on the cam. That 496 is a lot of cubes to feed, and it will take a bit more cam to do it. Something like Comp part 11-413-8 212 int and 218 exh duration @ .050 .510 lift on both intake and exhaust I would also skip the aluminum heads and run a nice set of full size...

Good place to have SM465 rebuilt in Oklahoma or South Kansas???

I'm in need of having my SM465 rebuilt. I'd like to get a price from somewhere somewhat local. I'm in the NW Oklahoma area (Enid). Who in Oklahoma or Southern Kansas does good work on SM465 transmissions? This thing will be going behind a stout big block 496 so I want any of the upgrades...

    Water Temp Question

Yes I run headers, and the sender is in the head above the headers. But as mentioned above, the problem was found and fixed. Truck runs a steady 190 degrees now.

    SM465 OIL CAPACITY

I'm pretty sure it is right around 4 quarts. Maybe 4.2 to be exact, if memory serves me correctly.

    Fitech

I have a good friend that put a Fitech Go Street on his Jeep with the fuel command center. It worked extremely well and he had absolutely zero problems. Throttle response was way better than the carb that was on it. There are some keys to getting them to work well. You can't have any exhaust...

Can't figure out my issue at cruising speed

Hell, I forgot to update this thread. It ended up being I had a damaged boot that got a little too close to the headers. Once it got heated up a couple of cylinders would start arcing to the header, causing a weak fire or miss. I replaced the wires, and put fiberglass foil backed boot sleeves...

    454 upgrade

I've seen BBC 2 bolt mains take 700hp for multiple seasons in a chevelle that was bracket raced. They are tougher than one might think, although I think 700 has got to be close to the limit.

    Sand blast cabinet

I have an Eastwood media blaster cabinet and I run a shop vac to it that has a HEPA filter in it. Works really well, and the cabinet seems to be of pretty decent quality.

Can't figure out my issue at cruising speed

Plug in cylinder 1 is darker than the others. Not black, but definitely darker than the nice tan tinge the others have. I have not changed a frame rail filter. I've looked for one and never saw one. I have not pulled the tanks, so nothing changed in there, but with it being carbureted, I...

Can't figure out my issue at cruising speed

So when I'm driving down the road at 60mph the engine is turning about 2700-2800rpm, but it either is missing or surging. The sound of the engine changes, and it will have noticiable more power for a sec, then the sound changes and it feels more sluggish. I have changed the plugs twice, the...

    Good headlights

If you do have interest in building your own harness, the site below makes great connectors. http://headlightplugs.com/ They will even solder the connections if you so desire. I've used them and have been impressed.

    Hydraboost swap R30 to V10

Nice work!! I bet it's nice having that fender off to do all that! I anxious to see what you think once you get done. Once I get all my powertrain bugs worked out (I'm getting close) this might very well be my next project. Keep posting the pics!

    Hydraboost swap R30 to V10

Good project @Honky Kong jr, I've been tossing this project around myself since everyone raves about the hydroboost brakes. I'm going to follow your thread here and see how it goes.

I hope so. I'm ready to hook on to the fifth wheel on Labor Day weekend and give this thing a tow test!

Stumbling, missing at low rpm, surging at cruise?????

Yeah, the guy I'm using is THE local quadrajet nut, along with his dad. He is a mechanic by trade, and he and his dad bracket race for fun, and use nothing but quadrajets. He loves them. His dad is magical with them. But I totally agree with you, a lot of guys don't know jack about them.

I agree. Turbo is superior to supercharger.

Stumbling, missing at low rpm, surging at cruise?????

Update: I determined it is the carb. I'm having the carb rebuilt and an additional aftermarket fuel filter installed and see if that fixes the crappy idle and surging. Truck goes in next Tuesday. I will post back once it is done.

Stumbling, missing at low rpm, surging at cruise?????

If I clean out and rebuild the quadrajet, can I add an additional filter to stop some of the junk, if that solves my problem? Or am I stuck cleaning out the tanks right now? EFI is not in the budget at this time.

Stumbling, missing at low rpm, surging at cruise?????

So my timing issue has been fixed by the new distributor. It was shot! But my engine is still somewhat stumbling and missing a bit at low rpm, and is surging at cruise on level ground. Could it be the ol slobberjet needs rebuilt?? Maybe throw an edelbrock on it?? Truck ran great for the...

Timing jumps around when using timing light

Plug wires are all brand new. Timing light is a couple years old, but on my other pickup it worked great, no fluctuation at all. I bet I do have one of those "delayed spark units"...........lol Hopefully the reman dizzy I ordered will fix the prob. Thanks guys!!

Timing jumps around when using timing light

Yeah, I unplugged the vacuum advance. I don't think it is the timing chain. I had a distributor wear out on a k20 with a small block, and the weights in the distributor had worn through the posts that they hand on, so I was not getting my full advance at higher rpm. This is behaving...
