What have you done to your square lately??

Put this in another "grill refurb" thread but double posting here. Redid my grill. Wasn't as bad some of yours I've seen here but was starting to peel. It took some time to accomplish but really like the results.

    Grill refurbish

Reviving this thread because its the only thread I could find that had the most posts about what paint to use. Just got done doing mine. Used Krylon Fusion Metallic Silver and Satin Black. I think it turned out pretty good.

How to soften 1983 k5 blazer original vinyl seats

I did a search for this exact thing a few months ago and the hands down, best reviews I could find was something called Leather Honey. There's a cleaner and a conditioner. I bought some to try out and I gotta say, the stuff is amazing. Directions say you can use it on vinyl, plastic, rubber too...

    Mechanical fuel pump beef/info rant

Couldn't agree more. I built a 383 stroker for my boat. Rebuilt my Holley when I did the engine. The boat was out of commission for three years and I reused the factory fuel pump (mechanical) which immediately failed after running for about 15 minutes. So I had heard all these same horror...

    1987 R10 3" step bar installation fiasco

Anything aftermarket will probably require some sort of creative thinking outside the box to actually install. Take a look at this post that I did after my step bar install. I hope it works anyway. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/account/alerts If not just keep paging down to similar threads and...

Gmc hood emblem need help finding a good one like this with silver backing not red. I know red one can get repop but dont wont it i will pay for goo

Small flat blade screwdriver. Its plastic on each side of the ornament with some sort of silicone stuff in between. The ornament is flat stock chrome plated inside. The GMC logo is etched into the plastic cover. The two covers must be pressed into the ornament before the silicone cures. The two...

Gmc hood emblem need help finding a good one like this with silver backing not red. I know red one can get repop but dont wont it i will pay for goo

That's what my factory hood ornament looked like. Took it apart and spent a lot of time with Testors model paint and pinstripe tape. Then coated it with polyurethane to get this. I hated that factory ornament.

What happened to all the S10's

In FL, I see em all over. All versions of them. Surprisingly, quite a few Extremes. Every once in awhile, I catch a glimpse of a Syclone or Typhoon.

What have you done to your square lately??

Ive always hated the color of my hood ornament. New ones for sale are rediculously expensive. Had to do something about it. Some Testors model paint, pin stripe tape and numerous coats of paint and then some polyurethane topcoat. Voila....new hood ornament. This gives you an idea what the...

    Fuel supply issue

I can only tell you my experience. Rebuilt QJ with a kit from Cliff Ruggles. I can pretty much guaranty that the Welch plugs don't leak. Carb works good but I get exact same issue. If it sits for more then 3 or 4 days it won't start right away. I took the air cleaner off and checked things...

Anyone know trick to install a new (used) door spring?

Does nobody search anymore? https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/front-door-hinge-spring-replacement.24252/#post-459920 It'll take you longer to find the right bar than it will to actually install it.

    Power Steering

Power steering pump. I had the same problem. At idle you had "Armstrong" steering. Had to use left foot to brake and right foot to keep the RPM a little above idle and the pump worked fine. Tried belts and fluid swap. I got a rebuilt pump from Napa two years ago and been working perfect since then.

    Temp gauge issues

Not a hijack at all my friend. Glad to help out. I just laid the new resistor right on top of the blown ceramic one, hooked the wire leads around the terminals and screwed the wire nuts down. I bought this kit of assorted 1/4 watt resistors from Amazon. It has 1200+ total count of 66 different...

Stumble at low rpm in gear.

This is definitely not right. I assume an electric choke? When it's warm the choke should always be open. Not just when you hit the throttle. Sounds like choke needs adjustment or the bimetal spring in it is toast and needs replacement. Make sure its cold and take the air cleaner off. The choke...

Stumble at low rpm in gear.

Could be choke setting, accelerator pump setting, idle mixture adjustment settings, timing, tune or any combination of them. Need more detail. When was it last tuned? What is the timing set at? What is the idle vacuum reading? What RPM is idle? Is there any slop in the accelerator pump arm? Is...

    Temp gauge issues

I wanted to revive this because there's some really good info in this thread and I have a lot to add. As an FYI, have the later style gauge and sender for an '86 350. I had a perfectly good working temp gauge til about three weeks ago. Then it just pegged high one day. I disconnected the sender...

    Car Stalls Going Downhill

Sounds like the float is too high to me if it stays running by adding throttle. On the downhill grade you're getting fuel spilling into the carb throat and basically flooding the engine. Keeping on the throttle is keeping the RPM high enough to burn the spilling fuel without flooding. You'll...

Opinions on an Engine Swap for 81 C10

Very true. I did exactly this retrofit when I built a 383 stroker for my boat. The only problem is the retrofit setup is rather pricey. You go this route you also need to measure and replace the push rods because the roller lifters are much taller than flat tappets.

What new tools have you got lately?

Ive had that same jack for a few years now. I love it. Night and day better than an old Craftsman that it replaced. Number of pumps you used to raise it was unloaded. When loaded it'll be a lot more.

    Missing power steering bracket

You have headers installed. There was a bracket that attached to one of the manifold bolts. When you install headers you are supposed to cut out a section of that bracket so it can bolt back up to one of the header flanges. The problem is the bracket still needs to be attached to the one of the...

What have you done to your square lately??

It'll also start cycling if you have the defroster on. If everything is turned off it should nor be running at all.
