    Sway bar FYI

On a kind-of related note, for anyone not running a sway bar, get one! I just put a stock 1 1/8" sway bar on mine that I got off another truck, and I can't believe the difference it made. Not just in cornering either. When driving down back roads and the pavement tips the truck from side to...

    re-gear time coming soon.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I've been a tech all my life, and have only built maybe a half dozen diffs. You'll be OK. Worst thing that might happen is that it would howl a bit. Also, so you know, I dropped a set of 4.88s in my C10 last year, just for giggles. It was a total hoot! If I...

LMC Mirrors Chome VS Stainless Whats the difference?

I didn't like they way they fit. I ended up scoring a nice original set off another truck. I didn't return them to LMC, so if anyone is looking for a set I have them. They are missing one door gasket. I had to use one on mine. Joe

454 TBI doesn't like operating temperature!!!

You need to get a scanner on it to see the readings. Anything else is shooting in the dark. There are a bunch of possible troubles that can be quickly confirmed or eliminated with one. Joe

    88 Caprice Classic Wagon

The 307s leaked a lot more oil and a lot more vacuum. They were equally durable. Joe

    Broken slip yoke help!

As longs as that seal isn't riding on the pitted part, I agree with bedwards. Joe

    Broken slip yoke help!

If it's pitted make sure all your ground straps are good. It's been a long while since I saw one that failed from that, but arcing across the tailshaft makes them leak eventually. Joe

C-10 Nationals in Maggie Valley, NC

I went last year. Lots of great trucks there. Mine is not show worthy, so I won't be entering it, but still nice to attend. Joe

    Big Block Radiator Hold-Downs

Wow! Thanks everyone for the replies. I found a pair of hold-downs for a 350. I cut them and extended them to fit. I had fun beating a piece of sheet metal to match the bends of the support and then welded them together. I got a set of big block rubber isolators and put it all together. I...

    Trans not building pressure

If it's a hard seal, and it sounds like it is, anything you put in there to soften the seal is bad for the clutches. Live with the delayed engagement or build it. So you know, they can live an awful long time like that. Joe

    Body work on my '86

I agree. I heard that so many times today that it was funny. the tires I put on there are pretty worn out. I need something new, and stickier, than what I've got now. I'll definitely look for raised or outlined lettering. Joe

    Body work on my '86

Went from wagon wheels to rally wheels today. I've been wanting them for a while. that should do it for everything on the outside of the truck. Next to work on the interior. I need to do something with my seat, and eventually the dash. Joe IMG_20200612_101224568_HDR by JoeR Jr posted Jun...

    Trans swap shift linkage question

Take the u shaped bracket off your original trans and attach it to the 4L80E. Stock linkage works just fine. I have the same setup in the same year truck. Joe

    Big Block Radiator Hold-Downs

Today I ordered a set of 350 hold downs from LMC. I'll stretch them to fit when they arrive. I also ordered the correct rubbers for the big block radiator. Joe

    Big Block Radiator Hold-Downs

That's crummy. Thanks though. Perfect! That's totally do-able. I know where to find a set of those, I think. Joe

    Big Block Radiator Hold-Downs

What radiator hold downs is everyone using when they swap a big block radiator into their C10? After adding AC to my truck my stock radiator wasn't doing the job. I added the Big Block radiator from an 85 C10 and installed a set of electric fans from a Windstar. I fabbed up a set of mounts for...

    Just built 355 overheating!

I'm with Frankenchevy. The first place I'd try would be to vacuum bleed it and then check my gaskets to make sure I had coolant flow. Lean mixtures won't cause your troubles. Joe

    TBI issues, please help diagnose...

2 bits of advice here: If your original ignition module is a delco unit, don't throw it out. You'll need it when the new one dies. The new ones don't hold a candle to the old ones when it comes to durability. At least not in my experience. If you have a multimeter, please backprobe the...

87-91 chevy TBI issues, "Code 42"

I don't mind helping you at all. You'd have to come to me though. My days of doing diagnostics in other places are over. I always end up needing something I didn't bring with me. Let me know if you want to stop by. Joe

87-91 chevy TBI issues, "Code 42"

Code 42 can be a pain in the ass. It can be caused by a few different things. the PCM sets the code when the EST wire is grounded when it isn't supposed to be, or if it has power on it when it isn't supposed to. While the test procedure lists a bunch of resistance values, the're not a lot of...

    Body work on my '86

Thanks Fried Daddy. I picked up a new grill for it. My next project will be to replace the radiator with a bigger one. While my stock radiator worked for 6k miles, it heats up at idle with the AC on. My fan can't keep up, so it's time for a big block radiator and twin cooling fans. Joe

Fluid overflowing from power steering pump

If the system aerates the bubbles displace fluid and it overflows. Not saying that's your trouble, but if you ever hear pump whine, that might be it. Worn Hydroboost systems do it often in cold weather, and then warm weather as it gets worse. Joe

    Bleeding brakes

Definitely not the booster. Try bleeding the air before the proportioning valve. Remember that the volume of fluid going to the back is much smaller, so it may take a few more minutes to get fluid back there. Joe
