    Small block 400

No, that was not meant specifically for the OP and his build. As you said, different tricks to bring it up a level. If you are not doing any sort machining, the stock stuff is perfectly fine to re-use. But if you need new pistons because of an over bore and are rebuilding the stock...

    Small block 400

I do agree with not just replacing the heads for compression. It sounds like the OP is going to go through all of it, so he will have the opportunity to do the math and get all the parts to line up nicely. I am in the minority, I believe, when it comes to Vortecs. Yes they are probably the...

    Small block 400

That is where I would start myself. Before you start doing anything to it, do a good evaluation of what you really from it. How high are you realistically going to spin this thing? What kind of manners do want it to have? What is your budget? The answers will dictate what stock components...

    Small block 400

I should answer the OP while I am here too... Depends on how deep you want to get into it. The biggest downfall for it right now is the terrible compression, you are probably at 7.5:1 to 8:1. You are fighting big 76cc chambers in your heads, dished pistons, and who knows how far "down in...

    Small block 400

Damn it!!! I had a really nice post typed up and hit a wrong button on my computer... Here's the short version... Run 5.7 rods in your 400. You need different pistons, but you need them for a 383 also. Grind the mains down on the 400 crank to the smaller 350 size and run bearing...

    Small block 400

 This kind of thread is both why I come to forums, and the reason I stay away from forums. I had a big response typed, but the shit storm ain't worth it.

    2015 GMC 8 lug wheels

No, they will not bolt on and work. As da-rabbi said, different lug pattern. And as CSFJ said, the backspacing/offset is not quite correct for our trucks either. However, both situations work in your favor because you can run adapters for the new lug pattern and achieve a more desirable...

    Aftermarket Gauge Clusters

I really wish these after market companies would offer different MPH and RPM ranges. I only want 100mph and 6000rpm. These are nice. I kinda like the font of the DD better though.

    What is this?

What is the green thing inside my air filter? It has a couple of small rubber tubes running to it underneath the air cleaner assembly. I for some reason am at a loss to what it is. Is it part of the Thermac system?

    Door mirrors

More of a retro vibe?? Sorry, I am not seeing it. I will be in the minority and say big thumbs down on the idea. I would still stick with the mirrors you have. If a more retro vibe is what you are after, get an older truck!

    Door mirrors

What's wrong with what is on there now? I would keep the dumbos you have. I had the bigger mirror head (middle pic) on the driver side of my truck when I got it. The thing vibrated like crazy and the exposed mounting point whistled worse than a turbo! Drove me nuts!

    k10+?=Sand Truck?

Depends on your definition of a sand truck. I have taken my stock trucks out on the sand dunes here in Michigan with no problem. I have seen dedicated crawlers on the sand. Hell, I have seen fwd cars out on the sand. It all depends on what you are going to do in the sand and how serious you...

    TH400 bangs into gear

Good to know it is "common", I guess. Mine is not intermittent however, it is every time I shift into reverse from drive or neutral. I chalk it up to not being driven enough.

    TH400 bangs into gear

I get a good thunk when I go from drive to reverse, so I will be following this too.

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

Oh my gawd.... I want it! I was also, and still am, sort of. My wife would not be happy if I went and bought that one as I still have two projects that are not "complete". I would love to find a nice roller...

    white lettering: in or out

I put BFG A/T's on my '05 Sierra that was tastefully de-badged also. I put the white letters in and it looked good, but I wish I would have put the white letters out. Being on a stock wheel I think it may have looked better. I will never know however. Picture with white letters in... I...

What cheap high performance engine parts should I use in my stock 350

Just keep in mind that all the "cheap" parts you can throw at it will always be contending with the not so great heads and bad compression of your stock motor. You can do headers and intake and cam, yes. But to really take advantage of them, get some good heads on there. That will make the...

    427 tall deck motor swap

Running a tall deck also may prevent you from running standard headers. You may be stuck with running manifolds. Also the throttle geometry and other things may be a little off too. You will find them as you progress through the build.

    Do I need a Lift?

If you are happy with it, just get a more aggressive tire in your current size, or a size bigger, and be done with it.
