I'm thinking about what kind of door mirrors I might install, and the small ones in the pic below are looking about right. The small little tripod door mirrors... I don't want real little mirrors like the sport mirrors because IMO it looks like T-Rex with his tiny little arms, lol.

Anybody have any pics of what this would look like on a 73-80?

Your thoughts? Pics please!!

The set on the left only looks right on the 3/4 or 1 ton trucks for towing. The one on the far right is similar to what was factory on my '79 1/2 ton. The only difference, was the mirror itself was more rectangular like the one in the center.

I have the middle version on my truck. I prefer the dumbo style as they suit our trucks better.

I am pretty sure if you look and my build you can see them.

I like the look of the 1 ton mirrors with support arms above the mirror, kinda like a big rig style. I think the dually's make it work though

I see now that there is a subforum all about glass and mirrors, so if moderator wants to move this there then that is cool.

Well I went and bought the small tripod mirrors in the pic from LMC. They have a good return policy so if I don't like it then I can return them no problems.

I assembled one of them, here's what it looks like:

Now with the mirror sitting horizontally...

They're generic mirrors and the tabs will need some adjusting to fit. It looks like they're designed to fit the 67-72 chevy's better.

I've gotten a big thumbs up from everyone, but my biggest concern is that they will not be as sturdy as the dumbo mirror and will move from vibration, wind, etc.

What do you think?

Ditch the tripod bases and retrofit them onto the dumbo base and I'd say yes. The mirror from the dumbo set can be unbolted and pulled out.

What's wrong with what is on there now? I would keep the dumbos you have.

I had the bigger mirror head (middle pic) on the driver side of my truck when I got it. The thing vibrated like crazy and the exposed mounting point whistled worse than a turbo! Drove me nuts!

That's not physically possible with out fabbing your own mirror to base piece

They have more of the retro vibe that I'm going for than the dumbo mirrors.

But if they're less functional then that would be a stupid swap to make. Hmmm... :hmm::help:

Well don't forget you will also have to drill new holes so that will also pose another problem.

And you have square fill doors on the box so the dumbos actually work better for cosmetics too

More of a retro vibe?? Sorry, I am not seeing it. I will be in the minority and say big thumbs down on the idea. I would still stick with the mirrors you have. If a more retro vibe is what you are after, get an older truck!

It doesn't appear that you're in the minority, at least not on this forum.

But I think that it is more retro. When were the dumbo mirrors first introduced? 75? My front clip is either 73 or 74. When I google image search 1973 c10 or k10, most of them have either tripod mirrors or the tiny sport mirrors (which I hate because they remind me of t-rex with his tiny little arms, lol)

I personally love my dumbo mirrors, but if you're looking for retro and dumbo mirrors won't cut it,

why not a pair of the original sport mirrors?

That front clip is the same from 73-80 aside from grill differences.

It is the box fuel doors though that changed in 1980

Although I can not confirm when the dumbo mirror was introduced IMO the round fuel cap is associated with tripod mirrors and the square doors with dumbo mirrors
