    Electric vs Manual Choke

Heat stove type. Probably should have used the term hot air choke now that I think about it. Did square bodies come with a pull cable type?

Irish's pickup from hell, the 454SS.

This resonates with me big time right now too! I have been witness to several amazing sounding, older generation trucks around my area. It always leads to me wanting to make my truck sound good! Couple that with the fact 3 out my 4 kids are absolutely in love with it, and I have soooo many...

Irish's pickup from hell, the 454SS.

Love this truck! I am especially looking forward to following your path with the Megasquirt. I have been thinking of using Megasquirt also with a TPI set-up on my SBC. How much of a spacer do you need? It won't cause interference with the hood will it? Keep up the good work!

    Electric vs Manual Choke

Here are my .02 My truck has only ever had a manual choke. My dad NEVER messed with the choke, and he bought the truck new in 1979. We have NEVER had problems with it starting, in ANY weather conditions. (Well... that's no quite true. I had problems with it this year, but hey...

    Vacuum Switch on Water Neck

Basically what I understand is that the switch controls the amount of vacuum available in relation to the coolant temp. Warmer temps means more vacuum available for the vacuum advance on the distributor. I just removed all the lines that go to this particular switch on my 400sbc equipped '79...

Only thing different is the logo in the middle of the closed ones. Open ones like these are the same.

Has anyone ran 4" pipe one a 350?

I see you are "young" so I give this advice... just put it on and see what happens!! It will probably kill some low end power, but by how much... who really knows? You might love it... but you will never know unless you just do it! Who cares what a bunch of people on a forum say or think?!

    Finally got her dropped! 3.5/5"

That is the perfect amount of drop IMO!! Not too much, and like you said, great DD height! Looks awesome!

What have you done to your square lately??

Took the carb apart (again) and adjusted the float level and put the choke back on, correctly this time. Also cleaned up the cluster-f of vacuum lines. Need to double check the timing and pray it starts a couple more times yet. Once to use in family pictures and another to put it to sleep...

    Dakota Digital switch/button placement?

I have already started saving! Hoping by summer next year I will have these in the 79. When they brought out the white lighting for them it sealed it for me.

    Dakota Digital switch/button placement?

You are the first one I know of to install the VHX gauges. Can't wait to see it done! With that said, could you do some holes in the lower cover underneath the steering wheel?

Will this cluster backing plate fit my 73?

Re-pinning the plug is the easiest part! Get a wiring schematic to know which wire needs to go where, and a small screwdriver, and go to it! Re-wiring the truck to go from an ammeter to voltmeter is more work. You can't simply plug in a voltmeter gauge in place of an ammeter gauge and be...

    Aftermarket fuel tank

A lot of guys simply get a tank from a Blazer/Suburban and use that. No matter what tank you end up getting, there is going to be fab work to get it between the frame rails. And you need to figure out the fill part too. Somewhere on here is a thread about it I believe...

    dynomax duals from summit

From what I have seen, many of these systems work exactly like that... meaning you cut the mid-pipes to achieve the fit you want. I am pretty sure the Dynomax system is that way.

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

I drove by this about a month ago, but haven't been in the area again to check it out closer. Wonder how close it is to the description... Truck has under 45,000 miles, 454 motor w/a 400 turbo transmission 3 speed, interior is in mint condition, body has a few bruises but is solid...

Introducing me and my 1976 Camper Special

Thanks for the compliments guys. Yes it's the factory color, well, as close as they could match after a minor accident about 20 years ago. And yes, it does have a green interior! I love the green on green combo. My wheels are actually factory 16's, not 16.5's. The 16's should be found...

Introducing me and my 1976 Camper Special

I do have a couple very handy actually! Oh yeah, it carried a camper quite a bit. Of the 100k miles that are on it now, my Dad and I figure at least 30k of those are with the camper on. The rig has been to many states, as far west as the Grand Canyon, and another country, Canada. It was...
