New brake upgrade on the frame off restore

Very nice! I put Wilwood's least expensive 4-piston calipers and 11.75" discs on the front of a 55 Chevy and absolutely loved them. Even with a manual master cylinder (also Wilwood) the car probably stopped better than 55s with cheap power brake conversions.

Just fyi - I dyed my carpet - it came out great

Back in the day I bought a black carpet that after a few years started to turn a reddish color where the sun hit it. Cleaned it and then sprayed it with Duplicable black dye. That was at least 10 years ago and it's still 100% black.

    Which brakes are right

Yes, base trucks got JB1 (manual) or JB3 (power) with 1.04" thick rotors. A step up was JD3 with 1.29" rotors. Calipers and inner wheel bearings were also different. Pads were the same. Did I get this right, Keith?

Easy to install trans cooler and temp gauge recommendations

My 69 C10's B&M light-duty aux cooler has been installed since 2002. I used high pressure trans cooler hose with fuel injection-type clamps. It's certainly not as robust as steel lines with flare fittings, but my point is it's not cheap hose that will easily crack. I probably need to replace...

    Cluster install for DUMMIES...help

I spent a lot of time making sure I got mine right when installing a new universal wiring harness. This might help somewhat: Also, I found this Painless manual to be very helpful on everything electrical: https://www.painlessperformance.com/Manuals/20205.pdf

Tap head bolt / intake bolt holes on rebuild?

To the OP: On another note, be sure to run a brush through the oil galleries. And wipe down the cylinders with white paper towels and oil until you don't see any discoloration. The grit left over from honing builds up in the cross hatch and can cause abrasion of the coatings on the rings...

Tap head bolt / intake bolt holes on rebuild?

That's a nice set! I'll try it if I ever need to chase some fine threads or metric threads.

    Optima Batteries worth the cost?

Maybe Elon Musk's battery plant should start making conventional car batteries. They'd probably weigh half as much and last twice as long as what's currently available.

    700r4 and th350

That's only true if the TH350 has a 9" tailshaft, which is somewhat rare. With the more common 12" tailshaft you will need to shorten the drive shaft and relocate the crossmember. However, a 2004R is the exact same length as a TH350 with 12" tailshaft. Here's another chart...

Tap head bolt / intake bolt holes on rebuild?

I don't understand what the stainless bolts will do. They are not designed to clean and restore the threads.

Tap head bolt / intake bolt holes on rebuild?

I've used these thread chasers for years. They don't cut the threads, they simply clean and restore them. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-900200 Just found this: A cutting tap is designed to create new threads, whereas a chaser tap is designed to clean, re-form and restore existing...

    Show your daily driver

We like them because the good ones (like Mazda, Audi, BMW) ride and handle as well as sedans, and they all have more versatility and better visibility. They can also haul all kinds of stuff from Home Depot. And that stuff is locked away from theft and rain! Can't say that about a sedan or...

    Patina truck project

My idea of patina. Fake doesn't even come close, even after hours of painstaking work by an artist. A top coat of SHINY clear on real or fake is the worst.

    Optima Batteries worth the cost?

I don't see how they can be worth the money unless the battery needs to be mounted on its side. The PO of my last truck installed a "Budget Battery" (actual name on label) with a 24 month warranty and it lasted 7 years. Even in the end, it never did totally die and leave me stranded, it just...

    Harbor Freight Tool/Product Review

Bought a 25ft Diablo air hose because I wanted a short run from a filter/dryer/regulator to a paint gun. Diameter is larger and weight is more than a standard Goodyear hose, making it a bit much to handle on a paint gun. The 50ft or 100ft versions would be very heavy, but would probably hold...

Does rollerizing a 454 really make a difference.? Not for racing, just a street brute.

What does Straub say? Since you're going the high-dollar custom cam route, I'd also talk to Mike Jones at Jones Cam Designs. As for balancing, the answer always YES, unless the rotating assembly is totally stock. And if you want the engine to rev >6000 RPM, then it's an absolute must!

Slightly stiffer coils that dont sacrifice ride quality

If you can find the GM specs for your truck, it will list some of the specs for standard and optional springs. Also, if you have your glove box build sticker, it should list optional HD springs, if installed. Here are specs for the two Moog springs...

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

It's not rocket science, but it's somewhat of an art. I've done two 10-bolts, one 12-bolt truck, along with a 9" Ford. I highly recommend Randy's Ring and Pinion for parts and tech support. And I'd also use a crush sleeve eliminator kit (spacer and shims) instead of dealing with a crush...

Where does your overflow bottle mount on your square?

My 82 had the tank mounted on the passenger side of the core support, almost underneath the battery. I ended up installing a 85 tank on the fender. It's larger, easier to access, and lets air bubbles escape from the radiator because it's the highest point in the system.

Bilstein ,Kyb monotube ,Belltech ....daily driving opinions

If I could choose just one end of a pickup for adjustable shocks, it would be the rear. That would let me fine tune for a compromise between an empty bed and, in my case, typically no more than a 200-300 lb load.
