5.7nhigh millage what oil do you use?

I think this is a carry over from back in the days when engine oil was non-detergent or not nearly as good of detergents as we have today. But for like the last 40 years or so I'd say this is a bad idea.

GMC Savana, Plus a Chevy Express Now Too

Ya, I was given a silver Toyota P/U and drove it for a couple years in the early 2000's. I didn't like the silver color at first until I realized how well it hides dirt. Oh, I like the look of black, I just don't like the heat absorption or maintenance. My square as you both likely know is I...

GMC Savana, Plus a Chevy Express Now Too

My wife has had a white minivan since 2005. I had a black Buick in the 90's and swore I'd never own another black vehicle, so we choose white for her minivan not realizing that it's just as bad if not worse than black where it comes to showing dirt, but at least it doesn't radiate heat like...

Sensor above oil filter 3 wire

Yes this is my understanding. On that system did you get a full 12 volts? When I got my truck it had an Edlebrock on it installed by the PO. Took forever for the choke to come off. I can't recall for sure but it was feeding less than 12 volts up the wire. Maybe 6 or 8 volts? So I ran an...

Whats you gas mileage on your squarebody truck?

I was having a conversation with one of the new guys at the shop about this. Our old trucks can get a really wide range of gas mileage depending on it's configuration. My dad when he had his 78' K20 stock 350 SM465 4.10 he pretty much got 10MPG whether he was communing to on a highway trip...

GMC Savana, Plus a Chevy Express Now Too

I've always enjoyed those terms, the ones I use the most: Mexican tune up: Revving a carbureted engine up to around 3K or so and closing the choke off fully until the engine RPM is close to stalling, let the choke open until it revs up repeat a few times, in a effort to clear a little crap out...

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

Seems like that easy button to me. A couple weeks off and all that comes with it!

    Adding 81-82 bumper fog lights

What @Ellie Niner is saying about fog lights is true. I have a set on my truck Hella 550's and love them, but yea you gotta flip them off above 25 or you just don't see as far out. Here they are great on rainy nights when I'm driving curvy roads, especially ones I don't know well.

    Door handle spring part number?

You'll need to either try to find some generic spring and make it work or buy a handle.

1/2 ton springs installed on 3/4 ton truck

@Oliver Remove the rear helper springs for the back. How many leafs are in the rear on your? I think there was a 6 leaf and 9 leaf available, but regardless it's an old truck it's not going to have a cushy ride. With that said I've driven my 84' C20 several hours to get feed for the farm and...

    transmission oil change

I would strongly suggest that you change the filter and filter but not for fluid mixing reasons but because the most common cause of not wanting to go into gear cold is a plugged filter. Let go long enough it can hurt the transmission. That fluid you quoted it probably fine. I'll admit that I...

    Windshield installation

Also don't forget that there are drains in the bottom corners of the windshield frame, if you use sealant you need to make sure you don't block those drains. I know a glass guy so he did mine, he did not use sealant, and said he normally doesn't unless the windshield channel is in rough shape.

    Cheap chit parts….

People seem to forget how similar this is to the late 70's and early 80's where the government was pushing new tougher emission standards, higher fuel economy and the imports come in already able to beat those standards. And what did we get from the American automobile manufactures to compete...

    Cheap chit parts….

No you are right they are Korean, and I knew that, but I was still thinking about Hayden when I was writing about WIA. I edited my post with a strike though and correction. Thanks for catching that!

LOL but it is still temporary. Good thinking on keeping the pump like that!

    Cheap chit parts….

That feels all to true. And @Grit dog I don't know if either of you followed my fan clutch debacle about 3 years ago, but Hayden makes most store branded fan clutches, plus there own line and they moved from the USA, to Mexica and then split assembly to Italy and China. I think I installed 3...

    Cheap chit parts….

Not hood ornament but the trim on my truck. I had some missing trim on the truck when I bought it and though the shop I got a good deal on this stuff. Looks like I bought the roll September of 2020. It's not identical to the factory trim, but it's close. Well now the chrome, which...

1996 Grand Cherokee transmission rebuild & on to other stuff

Since doing the evaporator and heater core I've only driven the Jeep a handful of times to work, and only once since it has cooled off. So I thought I picked up on a heating abnormality, but kind of shrugged it off. Today it was obvious. Set the thermostat at 70F and left the house, as normal...

1966 Brand New Pick Ups on Rail Car near Mt Shasta

Somewhere around 30 years ago I had a 65' C20, it was like that, small window stamped for big. I don't think it had back up lights, but man the memory fades overtime. I know it had no seat belts. I really liked that truck, but only had it a few years before someone pulled out of an...

    350 Water Pump Woes

Interesting info. I don't work on medium duty so did not know that, and I'm sure the answer I got from Gates was regarding light duty / cars. And you are certainly right about oversees parts, so many once well known quality parts manufactures have done that and as you know quality seems to go...

    350 Water Pump Woes

Ok so I'm going to be "that guy" to carry on the lower hose debate. So we all know it's possible for a lower hose, particularly a high mileage soft hose connected to a not so clean radiator to collapse down. But what about that spring in the lower hose? Years ago you could get a replacement...

    1976 Chevy Chalet

That's pretty cool. I had wondered if it had a pass though. As cool as it is I can see why motorhome bodies on pickups never took off. For one thing a guy can get a slide in and still have the pickup and use it for other things than camping, and the other thing I can think of is that van...
