Seriously bummed with this drivetrain setup right now :(

Is there any chance it is just a tire issue? Vibrations and weird harmonics can feel like they are coming from one area when they originate from somewhere else entirely.

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

Some random Redfish Thoughts on Towing Campers and other heavy things... I am with @PrairieDrifter on keeping the speed down. Trailer tires are NOT designed for high speeds. Keep the speed reasonable and everything works better. Horsepower and Torque make towing easier and safer but they are...

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

Dan, take a deep breath and read this very carefully. Please. You started this thread with questions. The overwhelming response was that it was okay to build your truck however you wanted to but that towing 19K pounds with it was a BAD IDEA. Many of us have experience with towing and we ALL...

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

This has to be a complete joke. It's like a train wreck, I just cannot help but keep watching. There is absolutely no way that any person who would consider themselves qualified to tow something this big and this heavy could be seriously considering using whatever that is in that pic. If you...

What fluid and capacity in 85 Chevy k10 manual 4-speed ?

The shift knob pic tells us all we need to know. That is the SM465. It takes 80W-90W Gear Oil. You can google "SM465 Fluid Type" and "SM465 Capacity" if you like. I did throw in a quart of expensive synthetic when I did mine...just because.

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

Because there is 16,000 pounds of inertia when you try to stop and when you are trying to turn and when you hit rough spots in the road. The truck may very well be able to carry 4000 pounds but that doesn't mean it can handle 16,000 pounds trying to twist it into a knot. The tongue weight...

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

According to their website the Carriage CW374 has (approximate) weights of 2810 at the hitch and 15,200 dry. 37'11" long, 12'11" tall. The hitch/pin weight is not a problem, the total weight is. I would not want to pull a trailer that long, that tall and that heavy without a dual rear wheel...

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

I am in agreement with @Grit dog I find it difficult to imagine a 19K fifth wheel travel trailer. Unless OP means an actual 5th wheel like an 18 wheeler... My fifth wheel travel trailer is just under 11K dry, it's almost 38 feet long and my '19 Duramax definitely knows it's back there. I...

What fluid and capacity in 85 Chevy k10 manual 4-speed ?

@sqhead Your pics are...awful. However, I just crawled under my truck to verify and I am pretty certain that is the SM465. This probably sounds silly but could you take a pic of your shift knob? The shift patterns are different. I will amend my earlier statement. The SM465 requires...

What have you done to your square lately??

Once again, @AyWoSch Motors came through with a hard to find OE part. I know these things don't matter to most of you and I was one of the folks that threw this "crap" away back when these trucks were new...but it matters now. I already had the OE jack but the "bracket" that holds the base was...

LMC Truck, in stock. $319.95. You can find them cheaper, especially if you don't want chrome.

What fluid and capacity in 85 Chevy k10 manual 4-speed ?

The factory owner's manual does not specify type or capacity, it just says to fill it until it reaches the fill hole. But it is 80W-90W gear oil. I believe mine took just over 4 quarts...but I don't remember exactly. The transfer case took ATF.

    Where can i find this??

Try @AyWoSch Motors . He is a very useful member of this forum and has a few "parts" trucks. I have spent money with him and will do so again.

    Cup Holder

Uhhh, my son or my wife or someone I care about very much will be the one that is sitting in front of that thing. Perhaps you don't care about your passengers. I care about mine. "Who cares about crashing a square body?" That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever read on this forum.

    Should I trade my 73 C20 for a 1998 Suburban

If you are feeling a need to "upgrade" why not sell that C20 outright and take that money to buy something newer? I think this would be a rather lopsided trade if you compared price to price.

    Cup Holder

No. Never seen one exactly like that and I personally would not, could not use that one. When both of my roommates ride with me I would NOT want that thing to add to the trauma if we were to have a wreck. These old trucks have no airbags and the center seat belt is only a lap belt. That...

    Bumper Fangs - SOLD

Just for comparison purposes... I recently paid $286.99 before tax, free shipping for these parts. It was worth it to me but it should show just how great the price was on these. @Doppleganger offered one heck of a great deal.

What have you done to your square lately??

OE air breather and duct hose installed. I cleaned them up but didn't want to get them too pretty yet...they wouldn't match the rest of the ugliness!

What have you done to your square lately??

And then... But what would require a specially made, customized shipping box? Cleaning this stuff up now for installation later. I want The '87 to look as original as possible when I open the hood. A BIG Thank You to @AyWoSch Motors for going out of his way to get me these...

What have you done to your square lately??

I replaced a very worn out set of front shocks with a new set of Skyjacker Nitro 8000s. The passenger's side was dripping oil, I had been wanting to change them anyway and that was the excuse I needed. These are set up for the 2 inch lift so I am hoping for good results. I won't be able to...

How to increase your odds for success at automotive wiring, electrical installation and trouble shooting.

I agree with almost everything you guys have said here but I will say that not everyone starts at the same point in a troubleshooting job. Some begin at the power source, some at the end user and others like to find a point somewhere in the middle and work from there. One of the best...

What have you done to your square lately??

I drove The '87 to a car show in Hammond Lousiana. It was a mediocre show, it rained a couple of times but I did get a couple of decent pics.
