    Harbor Freight Flashlights/Batteries

For years I would always get the free HF flashlights. I just tossed them into a storage bin in the garage to use "someday." Lately, when I went to use them I found the batteries had corroded and ruined the lights. From now on I'll remove the cheap batteries before storing them. Just thought...

I wouldn't put birth control in the "stupid purchase" category. Probably the best money you ever spent! ;)

    WTB: Frt & Rr Posi-Units and 30-Spline Axles for 88 K5

Looking to replace 8.5" 10 Bolt 28-spline open carriers with 30-spline posi-units. I understand 8.6" units will work with the correct bearings. Please correct me if I'm wrong! Thank you for checking this post. No G80 Gov-Locs please.

Differential Fluid on Underside of Blazer

I found a complete "set" on Ebay that has the side gears with shims as well as the spiders. Can I replace all without resetting ring and pinion settings? It is only $74 shipped. I don't see where this should affect the R/P setup but don't know what I'm doing here and would rather ask than mess...

Differential Fluid on Underside of Blazer

Blue Ox, Wow! That's what I was hoping to hear but the pessimist in me was envisioning having to jump through hoops to correct this situation. Another question...Do I purchase spiders with shims (curved pieces) or just reuse the ones already in there? Or does it matter? Thanks!

Differential Fluid on Underside of Blazer

Next question... Spider gears are "chipped." Top edges are missing small pieces but someone already removed the broken pieces. Gears on the side are okay. Can the spider gears be replaced without replacing everything else and is there something I need to know about the shims for them? I didn't...

Differential Fluid on Underside of Blazer

Well, pulled the cover. At times like this I wish I had a smart phone (flip) and knew how to post pics! The differential was obviously underwater at some point. And yes, the vent is mounted to the underside of the bed. Inside the pumpkin there is rust from the left side to about an inch past...

Differential Fluid on Underside of Blazer

Just returned from parts store with gasket and fluid. Will let you all know what I find when I open it up. Hopefully tomorrow. Just perplexed how it blows 80-90W fluid out. That's pretty thick stuff!

Differential Fluid on Underside of Blazer

Blazer has 72,000 original miles. Overall very solid, rust free vehicle with only cosmetic problems from PO who had "head in butt" syndrome. I can't say he didn't (or couldn't) figure out a way to screw this up to but I'm at a loss how it can happen. Basically, I'm not sure HOW the differential...

Differential Fluid on Underside of Blazer

Just installed a new muffler/ tailpipe and noticed the entire rear of the under body is covered in oil (grease) that appears to becoming from the hose vent from the differential. Haven't pulled the differential cover yet but I've been driving trucks for a long time and never seen this before...

Frame boxing for big tires, big axles, and high output engine

Question time... If you box the front of the frame does it make the rest of the frame more prone to crack where the frame "boxing" leaves off? Also, I wouldn't forget the reinforcement plate for the steering box. Sent from my rotary dial telephone.

    1984 K10 305 Headers

Ever watch the Engine Masters video on "dinging" headers to fit? They practically smashed them flat with a sledge hammer without before seeing any difference in performance. I put a set of Hedman headers off a '79 square body onto my '67 BBC and had to ding the headers a little to fit and the...

dual exhaust or dual with headers

There is a video on You Tube that did a heat comparison between ceramic coated headers vs un-coated headers. The ceramic coated headers never exceeded 200 degrees (IIRC) while the un-coated headers exceeded (or approached?) 900 degrees at one point. Tried to find link but couldn't. IF you...

    Heads Up! Rock Auto Sale!

Just wanted to inform you all, I went on Rock Auto's website and they have a lot of parts for our trucks on sale. I purchased six KYB shocks, steering stabilizer, Energy Suspension bushings for stabilizer bar along with front and rear leaf spring/shackle bushings and 3" nerf bar steps. When...

    Center Dash Bezel

Still looking for a Silverado brushed aluminum A/C bezel that goes across the right side of the dash. I can buy a new one for $79.95 from LMC but if I can find one for less that someone wants to sale I'd rather buy from members.

    vortec heads on 350

In '79 I had two friends, one with a brand new truck 350 K2, the other with and older '76 454 C20. The one with the 350 wanted the power from the BBC and the other wanted the better gas mileage from the SBC. They swapped and the difference was 1 mpg! The owner of the original 350 truck was PO...

    '88 350 TBI Compression Question

    4WDKC, Thanks for the information!

    Look what followed me home.

Best truck I ever owned was a '77 K20 with 292/SM465/205 with 4.56 gears. Pulled like a 'dozer and got terrific gas mileage. Just don't pull out into traffic unless you've got LOTS of room to get up to speed! The 292 had only about 20 lb. ft. of torque less at the "bottom end torque range" than...

    '88 350 TBI Compression Question

Well, darn! I was hoping they were rollers! Oh well, makes the decision to replace them easier. This part of the project is still a long way off so I just thought I'd start planning now. Found a post on another forum that says compression ratio is 9.3...just ran across it by accident. Also ran...
