    HEI module dwell time.

As most of you know I drive GM's, but I work on Ford's. Ford dealer will have the paste. I would think GM dealers would have it too.

    Crossfire cap

This also shows you how a good set wires help you. After losing half the spark potential, the wires hold the rest and get it to the spark plug.

Finding smog pump 1985 Chevy K20

What Brian is explaining to you, is the 1985 exhaust manifolds are slightly different then 1973 manifolds Mike has shown you. Does your husband's truck still have the original 1985 exhaust manifolds with the AIR pump tube fittings? Hard to see in your photo.

    HEI module dwell time.

No. You called me out some time ago when I said "dwell". I didn't want you to miss. This is the answer! Worn out or weak point spring. So with a dual point distributor you could dial out point float on a high revving engine. One point set starts the dwell charge, the other point completes it...

    HEI module dwell time.

Interesting read Rick. As you might remember GM called out 28-32 degrees of dwell on the 8 cylinder, point distributor. I was taught to try for closer to 28 degrees because as the rubbing block wears, the dwell increases. The change in dwell also effects the timing. So always set dwell first...

    Collapsed upper radiator hose

As stated, if the pressure cap is good, then there is still probably air in the cooling system. This is one of the reasons to drill a small hole in the thermostat, if it does not already have a vent. The vent insures that the cooling system is mostly full of coolant to start with.

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

@Jamesz What year are the trans, bell and clutch parts from? Did you check the measurements I stated? If that early style is shorter front to back, you need the correct fork to match.

    Brake light issues

I read this post through twice. Seems like the original issue is the truck bed lost it's ground. Common on these old trucks. The bed gets it ground through the bolts to the frame. Rust ends up insulating the bed and no ground. Need to add a 12 gauge wire bolted from the bed to the frame. When...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

I believe there are different diameter trans holes, i.e. the little 3 speed is smaller. Think about that cast iron bell. You could call it a quick change clutch. Unbolt and slide the trans back. Bar the engine around and remove the pressure plate bolts, it and the disc slide out the bottom...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

You want to measure your bellhousing. Newer style is 6.29" trans flange to engine flange. For many years engines had a single engine mount in the front and used a mount on each side of the trans bell. This is how the many 6 cylinder engines were mounted. Your bell has those mounts. As more V8s...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

That bell housing with open bottom has room to put nuts inside. Older style, will probably only fit the 11" clutch. Advantage is you can use stover style lock nuts. Will not vibrate out.

Hear me out...GMT400 box on a square frame

Measure the width of the frame. I know the GMT800 has a wider frame than a square. Not sure about the GMT400. So you would need to make some offset brackets.

How to mount 1983 (O-ring style) PS pump on 1975 K10

So unless the SAE tube flare is damaged, you should be able to get it to seal. GM used them for years. That being said, you could mount your old pump. Swap out the relief valve from the '83 pump into the '75. Now you will need the correct pressure hose with the 'O' type fitting on the pump...

    Random wire

You are probably correct! I have been doing this too long, I already have it figured out. Blue wire down to the frame. Wrapped around the brake lines a few times to the back of the truck. It ends by the taillight wires that have a bunch of butt connectors. PO had a trailer connector with...

    '77 Vandura radio not working

Like the mini spade lug fuses used now, the color bands on those old glass fuses indicates the amperage. Some fuse manufactures had them. No standardization. So a guess about your older aftermarket radio. It could have a failing solder connection inside. The electronics inside heat up in use...

    '77 Vandura radio not working

Taylor, since you asked, the old GM fuse panel had some hidden features. You can easily see in @heartbraker666 picture the 3 vertical fuses at the bottom are key on switched. Hidden feature #1: The radio will not work if the backup lights have a short and burn the fuse. This is a safety feature...
